Gravatar "Despite being asked by Cardinal Basil Hume, the previous Archbishop of Westminster, to desist from receiving Communion because he has not converted to Catholicism, Mr Blair received Communion from Fr Michael Seed while he was at Downing Street and from Fr Timothy Russ and Fr Walsh at Chequers."

Now THAT is worse than the tranny communion thing.

Gravatar Call it the Catholic culture of the elite.

From the Kennedys to Guilliani, it is nothing but an embarrassing string of privilege that is not theirs to exercise.

The message to the public is clear: the Catholicism of the elite is not the same religion as practiced by the (blessedly) normal.

Gravatar What's your definition of "elite?" Do actors like Mel Gibson Martin Sheen count? What about Tom Monaghan? Or public officials like Sam Brownback and John Roberts and Antonin Scalia? My family is active in the Church and generous benefactors. Are we elite? Just curious who qualifies as "elite" to you.

Gravatar Nathan,
I don't think Stubbly boy was having a go at you. Unless, y'know, your folks and the others you mentioned are championing abortion.

Gravatar I had two points in my first comment. First, I meant that there are plenty of other high-profile Catholics, which I assume to be his definition of "elite," that, for the most part, happily follow the faith. Every creed has some who dissent from teachings. Second, it would be foolish to think that a large number of rank-and-file "normal" Catholics follow every single Church teaching and that it's just these "elites" who ignore what they want in terms of abortion or any other issue.
