How cool would it be to have the texts for the Liturgy of the Hours and/or the Missal(s)? Basically anything that condenses books we spend a lot of time carrying would be a nice touch.

I second the Breviary suggestion!

universality.com has the daily Divine Office readings, shouldn't be hard to convert it into iPhone format

Well Universalis is not bible software it is the Liturgy of the Hours for the iPhone/iPod Touch. But at 32.99 is one of the most expensive apps at the app store. Now I have no problem paying programers their due being one myself, but surely this app did not take as much time to develop as most of the $9.99 games. The reviews on the iTunes store for Universalis are rather funny - people are not happy about the price.
Some thouth the USCCB had something to do with this, but Universalis uses the Jerusalem Bible to avoid having to pay.

I give Universalis credit for making the Breviary available online. No one else has, but what they're charging for the iPhone version is over the top. I wonder if they have any relationship with the guy charging an arm and a leg for the iCal version of the Breviary?
In any event, some industrious Catholic/Catholics out to make the Liturgy of the Hours on the iPhone/iPod available for free or close to it...ahem...USCCB?

Ben,
If the USCCB had an app made it would probably be in the hundres of dollars. The production costs on their podcasts are outrageous.

Besides the Breviary, the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy would be cool quick apps to have.
A Calendar of Saints too!
How about digitizing the missal? How soon will it be when Father starts offering mass by using an iPhone or a Kindle instead of a thick and heavy book, and not even having to turn pages before exclaiming "The Lord Be With You"?

I wonder what they're providing in the universalis software aside from an archive of the current offerings on the web site, at that price? if there is an offline reader/archiver avaliable similar to isilo/isilox, one could do the same thing.

The Universalis is probably more expensive than games because it sells less. I don't know that for sure, but it would make sense. Game programmers can make up their costs with high volume and low price.
As for other Catholic items, it isn't an app, but if you go to the podcast section of the iTunes store you can find several Catholic podcasts which are available for free.

If it had a "smite" feature for some unwanted phone calls, that'd be nice.
And a holy-water squirter.

Apple's got SDK support for anyone who wants to create apps for the iPhone/iPod Touch (the 2.0 software is only $9.95 for the iPod Touch, then you've got access to the app store for apps on the iPod, too). Just go to apple.com/iphone and look for the SDK link for information.
I'm dying to get my hands on an iPod Touch or iPhone. If only AT&T would build more towers out my way, I'd switch over to them and get the iPhone. But coverage just isn't that great in southwest Virginia. (Yet.)

Oh, that SDK is for anyone wanting to create apps. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
I have no talent for that sort of stuff. I barely have the talent to own an iPod. ;)
