Great news, but let's not forget, in the midst of all the excitement of greeting our new bishop, that we are also saying goodbye to one of the best, awesomest, most beautiful bishops that ever lived -- our beloved Bishop Carl Mengeling, about whom I haven't heard much recently. It would be nice if someone in Catholic media in Michigan did a retrosective of his life and service to the Church, and this diocese.

Right, terrip, the Lansing web site is a bit confusing, but Vespers was yesterday at 7, Installation Mass is today at 2, and the Mass of Thanksgiving is set for tomorrow morning.

Holy smokes! He is soooo orthodox! He lived at my parish for several years and was a fantastic preacher and pastor. God bless him and God bless the Church!

I have lived in Mengelings' Diocese and cannot speak for his orthodoxy at all. At a demonstration a few years back at his cathedral in Lansing where pro-abort 'Catholic' Gov. Granholm was in the church being welcomed by him, the police refused me the use of a back step in the outer vestibule for a few minutes out of the winter cold to (discreetly)nurse my baby!
Also he has shown little regard for stopping liturgical abuses. The two times I atended a Mass with him, he acted like he was a talk show host and paced back and forth during his homily He also gets everyone to clap about something during the Mass. Illicit vessels for the Precious Blood are ok with him. Latin is verboten, even for a new Mass. Show me you love for our Lord and His Church, Bishop Mengeling, by your obedience to the norms! The happy-clappy bishop could be his motto! He is very personable, but without gumption or backbone to stand up for the truths of our faith and its practice.

This new bishop looks to be a wonderful blessing on the Lansing diocese. Another good and holy episappointment! May there be many more for we desperately need holy, faithful and strong bishops.
Ave Maria!

The installation Mass was wonderful, and at several levels good solid "teaching moments" were used by Bp. Boyea to fine effect. Terrific launch of his leadership. Ad multos annos, episcope!
