Thomas, sometimes it's better to read the primary sources instead of relying on interpretation of the media of certain statements coming from the Curia.
Gerald had to change his post around on this same issue, when his readers exposed how the articles from cwnews.com, the actual statements from Martini and Ruini, did not contradict each other on the question of euthanasia.
Again, it is better to rely on the actual statement and put it in context rather than rely on Magister's account, since he tends to take statements out of context and make his own judgement. That is not professional journalism and we need to be able to make the distinction.
Truth be told, Martini is definitely left of center in his theology. But as one person already commented, you should read the primary sources before citing wild headlines.
I'd expect a bit more nuance and sophistication from a theology student dealing with statements made by a cardinal. The secular media lacks this nuance and sophistication as does the cardinal's more conservative critics who see him as a symbol of everything wrong with the Catholic Church today.

Am I mistaken, or did you remove my comment?
Maybe you misinterpreted my attempt at humor. I wasn't trying to suggest that Papa Ben has supposedly somehow subverted Martini's 'right' to dissent.
I also apologize if the hypothetical joke about Martini serving time in jail for euthanizing an old man was in poor taste.
I might have deleted it accidently along with a whole bunch of spam messages that cropped up... so not having seen your joke I can't judge its appropriateness. :)

Doesn't this man have Parkinson's? Perhaps he is just grasping at his own life instead of handing it over to God and that is the origin of all this rancor?
IT probably just galls him not to have been elected, yes.
