They did this same thing 4 years ago, between Bush and Kerry / Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks.

"Even though the two candidates are viewed favorably by about the same number of people, there are some big cultural splits. Of people who get their abortions regularly at abortion clinics, 100 percent favor Obama while 0 percent prefer McCain. Of people who frequent Pro-Life marches, 100 percent favor McCain while 0 percent prefer Obama."
Just another way to read that statistic.

Hey, I shop at Wal-Mart regularly, I've only stepped foot inside a Starbucks once, and sure enough, I do indeed support McCain (but only very reluctantly and as the lesser of two evils).

Somehow this seems like a stupid comparison. It's not like drinking coffee at Starbucks and shopping at Wal-Mart are mutually exclusive.

I do Starbucks and Walmart.
I also know people who purport to be pro life but support Obama. I guess some things, like defending the lives of the least among us, mean little to them.
I guess I'm a hybrid who supports McCain.

I've never been to a Wal-Mart, but most of their demographic tends to be low to lower-middle class. Wal-Mart sells rifles and Nascar memorabilia, so it's no surprise that the majority of the shoppers tend to be on the conservative side. What this has to do with Catholicism, I have no clue.

We've got a lot of kids and shop at WalMart for groceries, school supplies, etc. because it is cheap - but for date nights, its Starbucks.
I'm kind of rethinking the Starbucks thing though. I was looking at their jobs/career page recently because I heard their benefits are good (medical for part-time) but when they talk about benefits, they actually list same-sex domestic partners before opposite sex partners - and even then, the opposite sex partners don't even have to be married. Kinda in your face. Shame.
It is sad to me that marriage really is getting to the point where it means nothing to so many people. I thought the point of spousal benefits was related to the fact that women are often at home having children, so they are not covered by an employer during those years.

KenF:
Perhaps you should go to a Walmart and see for yourself.
Funny, when I go, I often end up parking my Honda Accord between Lexus SUVs and Dodge Ram pickups.
I see people in there carrying Coach handbags and iPods.
Doesn't sound like it's all low income people shopping there, according to empirical evidence.

^^I shouldn't have generalized all Wal-Marts, I'm sure there are many stores that cater to a more upscale customer base. I guess it depends on location, however, the one in my city is a complete dump in the shadiest part of town.

I am all for parking my NObama, Sanctity of Life self down in the local Starbucks all day -- in the interest on influencing the vote, of course. :) Pumpkin spice lattes help, too. :)
Maybe I'll even help to spark intelligent conversation regarding the issues and help people to think critically about what it is that they are actually supporting. (Ooops, is that my caffeine-induced idealism/fantasy coming out?) :)
