I'm confident Farrell will be orthodox. He is, however, a former Legionary, and that worries me. I've heard former members say the LC use blackmail to control those that they can, and given that in the Legion the spiritual director and confessor are normally the superior (contrary to Canon Law), it worries me that he hasn't publicly distanced himself from them, and Dallas is one of their bases in the south.

Q P,
I understand your unease regarding Kevin Farrell's history with the Legionaries of Christ. I take some solace in having read that Bishop Farrell was supportive of the founders of REGAIN*.

* ReGAIN's mission is to outreach, unite and support those touched or adversely affected by the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi Movement.

I know little about this issue of Legionaire of Christ. In my parish there is a group of people in Familia, some sub-group of this organization. And I hear of and know of no problems or controversy with Familia.
All the well, I hope Bishop Farrell all the best and may he walk in God's grace.

I am not aware of any problems with Familia materials. The problem with Familia is what the Legion did to the Sellors, the couple who founded it.
Seeing a successful program, the Legion befriended the Sellors. They soon convinced them that it would be in the organization's best interest if the Legion helped oversee it. Eventually, the Legion kicked the
Sellors to the curb and took complete control of Familia.
The Sellors, with the help of an attorney who had worked with them pro bono for some time, went to court to get the right to continue with what they had seen as their life's work. But the Legion hired Kirkland and Ellis, a high-power, aggressive law firm, to defend their prize.
Eventually, the case settled. The Legion quashed the controversy by paying the Sellors $30,000. The Sellors have the right to continue their apostolate, though without its original name. The Legion, on the other hand, moved forward as if nothing had ever happened.

Oh, rats! Rumor had it that we were going to get Bishop Farrell in Rockville Centre (Long Island, NY).
My congratulations, Julie, he sounds like just what you've been praying for!
