Gravatar yeah, but how many have the backbone to discipline instead of just talk?

since no politician has been disciplined yet, i'd have to say 'zero'.

Gravatar Great News that the count is up to 9. If you consider the 9/10/08 USCCB statement the total would be 56 as the Administrative Committee which penned the recent statement has 47 Bishops on it. There are 195 dioceses in the USA so this represent 1.4 of the Catholic Cathedras. When will Bishops enforce Canon 915 like Abp. Raymond L. Burke of La Crosse, Wisconsin diocese did 4.5 years ago. "Raymond L. Burke, D.D., J.C.D., a doctor of canon law, first conducted private communications to three 'Catholic' legislators, imploring them, "to make their consciences correct with Magisterial teachings."

After all three politicians refused to meet with him, saying they instead reject the Church's infallible teachings, Archbishop Burke, as 'Priest, Prophet and King,' then took the necessary steps to issue the four paragraph 'canonical notification' to address the scandal they were causing in his diocese by their conduct 'which is seriously, clearly and steadfastly contrary to the moral norm' (EE n.37).

The notification declares: "...Catholic legislators who are members of the faithful of the Diocese of La Crosse and who continue to support procured abortion or euthanasia may not present themselves to receive Holy Communion. They are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, should they present themselves, until such time as they publicly renounce their support of these most unjust practices" (canon 915).

Archbishop Burke exhorted, "No good bishops could stand by and let this happen. These public legislators are in grave sin."

All Bishops must protect the Eucharist from sacrilege.

Gravatar yeah, but where is the media outrage? where is the story? where is the coverage that is actually going to make a different to Biden's bid for the white house???

Gravatar The bishop of Scranton, Biden's childhood hometown, has also commented.

Gravatar They should be responding, because they have gotten into a heap of trouble. Politicans giving theology by sound bites is never a good idea. And it is not a good idea because it quickly and effectively spread bad theology. Pelosi and Biden each make a quip and I've heard it now from dozens of Joe and Theresa Pewsitters who are taking it seriously. I doubt learned and thoughtful episcopal essays in the diocesan newspaper is going to put the genie back in the bottle. But, hey, no one has a better plan, so let's see how many more bishops we can get to do so.

Maybe bishops giving political soundbites was a bad idea if this is what it has led to. Unfortunately, at this given moment, the average Catholic knows more about the Church Doctors from Biden and Pelosi than any other source.

As I believe St. Cyril of Alexandria said "What goes around, comes around."

Gravatar the only reason the soudbites of pelosi/biden would be heeded is if the voter was wanting to vote pro-bort/democrat anyway, and now pelosi/biden just gave them a soundbite excuse to justify it.

Gravatar FYI, the direct link to Bishop Slatterly's statement (rather than someone else's blog entry) is below:
