Re Purves' line about the Church's weird horror of fleshly things being nastily counterpointed by its affection for cadavers.....
I could say that Purves' weird hatred of logic, tradition, and basic manners is nastily counterpointed by her affection for clever rhetoric.

I guess Purves is repulsed by the body of the risen Christ.

If your religion is called in question by others, listen to what is said, but take no notice whatever of their criticism and laughter. Be sorry for those people... and say a prayer for them.

"The Church's weird horror of deliberately using food as a sex toy or weapon, in front of starving people during a famine, is nastily counterpointed by her love for seed corn and digging up potatoes."

Notice how one of the things the Church has a "weird horror" of is "contracepted sex." She has to put the modifier there, because the Church in fact has a great appreciation for natural sex - what the terminology of our modern culture would call "unprotected sex." Devout Catholics would never regard sex as something we need to be protected from. It is not Catholics who are afraid of sex, it is the culture at large.

You are right. They fear it because it controls them. It controls them because they always submit to the tyranny of their appetites.
