"fairly addicted"? "rather hastily"?
It might be a blog, Thom, but that's no excuse for bad writing.

lol, but I love oxymorons like that! It gives my writing a healthy dose of clear ambiguity! :)

'House' is brilliantly scripted and Hugh Laurie plays the part well. Great series and getting better.

I'm with your dad on this one, AmP - phrases like that are just plain distracting and annoying. Kind of like the friend I used to have who would modify any sentence with "Pretty much." You could ask if the sky was blue, and he'd say "Yeah, it's pretty much blue..." or ask if he was male, and he'd say "Well yeah! I'm male, pretty much." (I used to try to trap him into making a simple declaration without using "pretty much" - it never worked.)

But the sky is rarely only blue -- never, if you're a painter. :)
Cameron is trying to stop getting hurt and doing stupid things because she cares too much for hurting people. So she picked Chase (whom she told herself wouldn't care) and tried to have a relationship that wasn't one.
(Although you'll notice that she picked someone who was a lot more "safe" than, say, a janitor, or anybody outside the hospital who was fair dating material. She also probably already had feelings for Chase which she refused to acknowledge, given her little drug incident.)
Not surprisingly, her whole stupid plan didn't work. Being Cameron, she will of course run stupid plans into the subbasement, and never admit to being wrong until her nose is rubbed in it. But at least she sorta admitted it this time.
The really sad thing is that Cameron has not yet done anything so idiotic in her love life as to surpass the stupid actions of average intelligent people of my acquaintance. We live in a very deluded society.

"...disappointing trend in almost every major TV drama where most of the main characters need to be sleeping with each other by the end of the second season..."
YES! I hate that! I watch "Lost," It's a great show, except for all of the semi-nekkid scenes.

Kasia, agreed. I tend to slip into an informal parlance when blogging, closer to the way I chat with my friends. In future, I'll try to keep closer to the same level of gramattical style that I try to maintain for my academic papers.

Interesting. Is a blog an academic setting? I think that a less formal writing style is perfectly acceptable for informal settings. And commenting on pop-culture entertainment on a blog qualifies as informal.

Oh yeah. This week's episode was one of the best (not counting the perceived problems with the medical side of the show.)

Oh, I don't think a blog is an academic setting, and I certainly don't expect academic-grade writing on a blog. I just think "rather hastily" is a wretched turn of phrase and should be abolished. ;-)
"Fairly addicted" seems colloquial but coherent. "Rather hastily" is just a mess.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in the Catholic blogosphere who's addicted to House.
Normally Mr. Laurie is so in-character as House that I hardly associate him with the previous characters he's played (the excellent American accent helps). But in this episode I noticed a facial expression when House was talking to Wilson that suddenly shocked me into recognition of the Hugh Laurie of Jeeves&Wooster or Fry&Laurie.

I'm also a fan of House and enjoyed your write-up of it, although I'd say that it's not surprising at all that Cameron's character is no longer the most "moral" one ever since she killed one of her patients (in the Joel Gray episode).

I think it's one of the BEST programs on television. And I too am glad to know that there are other Catholics out there that enjoy it too. The issues they tackle have been quite thought provocative not only for me but for my teenager and adult children. Can't get enough of "House"? USA network has placed the show on it's schedule for weekend viewing-Fri. & Sat. 10 cent./11 east.

Fella,
Your catholic, that institution long ago gave up being any legitimate source of morality. I can't believe some are so deluded and have so much time on their hands thatthey establish blogs to be a 'strong advocate of the papacy'.
It's borderline bizarre.

Excellent, I'm glad you're learning. Maybe there's a connection between being a strong advocate of the papacy and believing that the Catholic church remains the only legitimate guardian of morality.
