Unfortunately that's a sign of the same illness that has infected American politics as well - the assumption that there is a direct relationship between dollars and votes or dollars and support for a position. Then again, it further betrays an arrogant position that increases in financial support were directly related to their change in policy and not rather coincidentally timed (e.g. people get a raise at work). When one is desperate to make a point any statistics will do.
