I haven't found any really good pics yet, but there is one from a couple of years ago with this story.
FYI, Bishop-elect Johnston's ordination is scheduled for 31 March. Archbishop Burke (St. Louis) is a likely consecrator - but no confirmation on that yet.

A JCL degree is not required for the posts of curial moderator or bishop, but it's a major help. CIC 378.1.5

It makes sense that Burke would be the consecrator since he's the metropolitan. Leibrecht probably gets to be a co-consecrator. I wonder who he'll choose as the other co-consecrator. I think the likely choice would be Archbishop Kurtz. Not that what I think matters one difference!

I know this priest and my whole family attended his ordination at Holy Ghost in Knoxville, also our parish. He is such a boon for the larger Church. Knoxville is very sad to give him up. We are so happy for the honor and know that he will be an excellent worker in the vineyard!
He is pro-NFP, pro-life and pro-Church and its teaching. His own sister took NFP classes from my friends who were CCL teachers. He later required it for all his engaged couples. Also, he has often attended the March for Life.
But even better is his acquaintance with traditional liturgical practice.
Fr.Albert J. Henkel was his pastor at the beautiful neo-Norman -Gothic Holy Ghost who kept traditional liturgical practice alive during his tenure there from 1960-1996. Communion was only at the altar rail. Fr. Henkel took Holy Communion to all the sick or would have only another priest do it. Only 2 male Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion were used and then only at one Mass on Sunday and only one, not both at a time. Even if he were not reading the Mass himself, Henkel would walk over at Communion time and help distribute the sacrament at all the other Masses. This is the example that Fr. Johnson saw as a boy.

Father Johnston is a very modest man and unassuming and quiet. He is a very good Father!
Knoxville has so many outstanding people. The new Archbishop of Louisville was taken from Knoxville. The head of the Office of Justice and Peace, who is an ex-Marine of all things, is doing such an outstanding job, according to my friends that Frank Pavone wants him to come work for him! And our sons' godfather, Bill Dunn, is an outstanding pro-life state Representative in Nashville!

"A JCL degree is not required for the posts of curial moderator or bishop..."
Indeed. The list of bishops without a JCL is quite long. These days, though, it would certainly seem that an advanced degree beyond a Master's in theology is a prerequisite. Of course, there are exceptions even to that.

And by the way, it sounds like Southern Missouri has gotten themselves a good one. With Rocco saying other appointments in the South are coming in the next few weeks, let's hope Little Rock finally gets one after twenty months of waiting!

Nathan, the list is long, I grant, but it's getting grayer, and shorter.
