He may not call himself Catholic, but he's not excommunicated.

Hmm.

Hairsplitting sophistry that leads me to ask:

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

Gravatar Who is next? Warren Buffet? Shameful. I guess we should prepare ourselves to be kicked while we are down.

Gravatar Fellow ROMAN PAPIST (let me disagree with the Protestantizer-divisive word American):

This, could be relevant to your post:

This brilliant (Zippy's) NICKNAMING is... irking the lukewarm (Vox-Nova, InsideCatholic, and many close contestants:

AUSCHITZ DEBATE CLUBS (see their laughable mannerly letter on how to sell themselves to the Obaminator).

Jokes apart, the point now is to leave behind the INTENTIONS debate, and face the impending $$$$$$ tax dollars… ready to feed the abortion chambers going full steam.

To do this, let’s clarify the USCCB mumbo-jumbo VS the CLEAR JPII:
Wuerl (“doctrine” honcho of USCCB!), YESSS the one who refuses to take responsibility of the Eucharistic MEGA-SCANDAL in DC, represents the fog machine going full blast.

Said Wuerl:
“‘Faithful Citizenship’ says, are the life issues. I believe that’s what we’re going to be judged by historically, down the road. I think one hundred years from now, people are going to look back...

To do this, let’s wonder how it was possible that we could have had a culture that builds into it the wholesale destruction of unborn life”.

WOW! Does he 'look back & wonder', or is asking forgiveness?

It takes a very hardened face to pontificate anew this, after YEARS PASSED BY eluding responsibility to teach and enforce JP II's Encyclical EVANGELIUM VITAE:
“The serious demographic, social and family problems which weigh upon many of the world's peoples and which require responsible and effective attention from national and international bodies, are left open to false and deceptive solutions, opposed to the truth and the good of persons and nations.

The end result of this is tragic: not only is the fact of the destruction of so many human lives still to be born or in their final stage extremely grave and disturbing, but no less grave and disturbing is the fact that conscience itself, darkened as it were by such widespread conditioning, is finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between good and evil in what concerns the basic value of human life”.

Cordially

Gravatar Help me keep track:
VP - dissenting Catholic
Speaker of House - Dissenting Catholic
Senate Majority Leader - Dissenting Catholic
Secretary of Health & Human Services - Dissenting Catholic
5 Supreme Court Justices (majority) claim Catholic - one votes in constant dissent regarding life issues

The USA is being set up for major conversion, judgement or both

Gravatar "he may no longer call himself Catholic" Oh come on! That bishop is NOT God and fortunetly it is NOT up to him to deceide who is Catholic. I just wish these bishops who have so much energy in condeming democratic politicans would have had just one percent of that energy in protecting children from pedophile priests and from the bishops that cooperated by moving the priests from parish to parish.

Gravatar And defending the life of the helpless unborn...

Gravatar Tip, recall that it was Justice Kennedy wrote the opinion upholding the ban on partial-birth abortion, so I don't think it's fair to say he constantly dissents from the Church on life issues. Justice Scalia thinks Roe should be overturned, but because of his originalist interpretation of the Constitution, he himself has stated that if legislatures choose to permit abortion, that's no problem for him. He said in a recent interview on 60 Minutes that the unborn are not protected by the Constitution. Additionally, all five Catholic justices frequently uphold the use of the death penalty, which my copy of Catechism and John Paul II say is virtually unnecessary in our country.

For Scalia's thoughts, http://www.cbsnews.com/video/ wat...ce=search_video

And I see Dave is singing his same tune. *yawn*

Gravatar dave -

#1 It is objective fact that one who supports abortion (or other intrinsic evils) is no longer a "Catholic in good standing." Persisting in such an act would be a clear act of rejecting the faith on the part of the applicable person.

#2 Priests are given the power to bind souls too, not just loose them.

#3 Changing the subject doesn't work.

Tip - thanks for helping me keep track!

Gravatar That was dave's knee-jerk, broken-record reaction of the day.

Gravatar "That bishop is NOT God..."

But he has God-given authority, which he exercised.

Gravatar Dave's comment with thought bubbles included in italics:

"That bishop is NOT God - I AM! - and fortunetly - I AM God, I just cannot spell - it is NOT up to him - it's up to ME - to deceide - oops again - who is Catholic.

Gravatar If memory serves, Bishop Carlson did not issue an edict on this, but rather, made the comment in a conversational, personal communication, saying something to the effect of, "You may as well not call yourself Catholic anymore."

As for the Obama administration becoming topheavy with dissenting Catholics, I'm beginning to strongly suspect that the Catholic Church is being "nose-thumbed" by a president (elect) once again, just as it was by the Clinton administration.

Gravatar Obama's philosophy seems to be: "The only good Catholic is a bad Catholic."

Gravatar Planet of the apes, babe.

Gravatar I just pray this is better than having Kitty Kat Sebilus in the position.

Gravatar let's all pray for Dave's perfidious soul.

Gravatar Someone wrote: "I'm beginning to strongly suspect that the Catholic Church is being "nose-thumbed" by a president (elect) once again, just as it was by the Clinton administration."

I think something far worse and more insidious is underway: these dissenting/fallen-away Catholics are held up now as models of success. Evil is always most dangerous when it masks itself as Good. Thus it will be seen that "good" Catholics are like (or should be like) these beacons of political power, the harbingers of a new and progressive society; "bad" Catholics are those who oppose this new order. And we know from history what happens to them.

Gravatar Why bother responding to Dave?

Gravatar Exactly Aelric, that's why 14 million Ukranians died during Stalin's "purge". Not to mention Pol Pot killed about 4 million or so.

And the list goes on. We haven't seen anything yet folks, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Gravatar Obama's middle finger must be getting cramps... ;-7

Gravatar "Obama's middle finger must be getting cramps... ;-7"

ROFTL

Gravatar Obama's philosophy seems to be: "The only good Catholic is a bad Catholic."

- more like ".. is a dead Catholic".
We need to pray for them.

Gravatar Abba Antonios said: “The time is coming when people will be insane and will behave like madmen. And if they see anyone acting reasonably, they will rise up against him saying: ‘You are insane you are not like us.”

Gravatar Look at it another way- Obama is flagrantly challenging the Hope And Change noise he made during the campaign. Look at the possible appointees to prestigious Cabinet positions. Daschle at HHS- another ethically-challenged Catholic; made a bundle from health care companies since his ouster from the Senate; Mrs. Daschle is big time DC lobbyist for airlines. Holder at Justice- did the heavy lifting for Janet Reno from Branch Davidian Kaboom Day to Elian Gonzalez Ejection Day to Marc Rich Pardon Day. Greg Craig, White House Counsel Designate- practically buckled Elian into his plane seat back to Havana. Hillary at State- not nearly enough time or bandwidth. Upcoming confirmation hearings should be a hoot. Hope and Change? Looks like Clinton Alumni Club meeting to me.

Gravatar Gerard E.,

I'd be nice if that mattered. A great deal of damage can be done in a few months let alone four years.

Gravatar Another cafeteria Catholic! What is Obama thinking of?

Gravatar I wonder how all those Obama Catholic "useful idiot" voters are feeling today? Tom

Gravatar TJM,

Oh, the devil's not finished with them yet.

Gravatar I think you folks could further the cause of protecting the unborn better if you stopped calling politicians who are *pro-abortion rights* simply *pro-abortion*. I think it would also be better to avoid statements like Bishop Chaput has made to the effect that pro-abortion rights politicians have "no regrets about abortions."

Gravatar Although I do feel that Daschle has much to prove, I truly believe that positive thought can transform this country! While it may be easy to dwell on negative aspects of Daschle’s policies, we can only look to the future and all that it holds in store for us. I've been using this concept in my personal life as well. Positive thought combined with the use of vision boards has truly helped me be more open to opportunity and change for the better! Like Obama says, “I’m asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington…I’m asking you to believe in yours.” Here's a great resource explaining (better than I can) how to use these concepts to better your life: www.thevisionboardkit.com. You can download a free first chapter, too!

Gravatar I'm not sure how being "pro-abortion rights" is any better than being "pro-abortion." Despicable either way.

Gravatar You may well be right in your assessment that both are despicable but there is a difference.

And I think that difference is centered in your not including a reposte to the objection I made in my post to the claim often-made that pro-abortion rights politicians have "no regrets about abortions."

Gravatar Well some politicians seem to fight so zealously for "Abortion rights" that it makes one wonder if they do actually have regrets about abortion. I say "wonder" because I don't claim to actually know the internal thoughts of a person. However, they are still fighting for the ability of someone else to take a life. Whether or not they feel bad about doesn't really help their position. The politicians aren't monsters, they just hold monster-like positions.

Gravatar lil whey,
Why should we not assume that "pro-abortion rights" politicians have no regrets about abortions? If people consistently support the pro-abortion agenda are they not really stating that they support abortion??
