but if it's making planned parenthood look bad, youtube covers it up.

Gravatar The "chain of custody" instinct in me leads to suspect that at least some of these are faked.

For the ones that aren't, well, some devils are driven out only by prayer and fasting and almsgiving.

Gravatar will they also be showing the video follow-ups of the 'desecrators' lives? - because that may prove interesting and informative...

Gravatar right lwestin. sorta like watching those famous locomotive wreck films...never sure what I learn from such flicks (what, that i should NOT drive a locomotive head on into a locomotive heading toward me? okay. i'll remember that.) but i still watch them.

Gravatar you fools just can't stand freedom of speech. get a life. it's you freaks like you from the bible belt you give America a bad name.

Gravatar you fools just can't stand freedom of speech.

Uhh...doesn't wanting to take our business elsewhere constitute a kind of exercise of freedom of speech?

get a life.

Ok, how about one google-free?

it's you freaks like you from the bible belt you give America a bad name.

I believe our host is in D.C. Not exactly bible-belt country. I'm in S. VA which is closer, but since I'm Catholic I'm more likely to experience a bible-pelt

God bless you and have a nice day.

Gravatar Anonymous, I'm confused. Has Catholicism become the predominant religion of the Bible Belt or have evangelicals come to accept the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist?

You know, we have another great freedom in America - the right to remain silent. It's not only handy on all those police shows on TV, but when used prudently it also prevents us from revealing our ignorance.

Gravatar I'm in California, not the Bible belt. And I dare say it is secularists like you, "Anonymous", who have ruined our country by flushing values and morals down the toilet. And how brave you must be, not even wanting to put your name on your statement. Or having the creativity to come up with a nom de plume.

Gravatar From the Newark NJ area, minutes from Manhattan...

Look, Anon. "Freedom of speech" does not mean the world owes you a forum. YouTube allegedly has policies about certain kinds of offensive material, including "hate speech" as well as "shocking and disgusting" material.

Our exercise of free speech includes the right to let YouTube know we think eucharistic desecration fits that particular bill.

FWIW, sneering contempt is bad for the soul. Why don't you try respecting people? It feels good and it's good for you!

Gravatar "If they hate you, realize they hated me first". We are the Catholic Church and our Bible Belt extends worldwide. Live with it. Learn from it. Then truly live.

Gravatar "And I dare say it is secularists like you, 'Anonymous', who have ruined our country by flushing values and morals down the toilet"

Oh? Really now?! You sound like Hitler and the Nazis who blamed the Jews for Germany's loss in WWI. tsk tsk

"And how brave you must be, not even wanting to put your name on your statement. Or having the creativity to come up with a nom de plume."

oh please.

Gravatar But there really isn't freedom of speech on you tube, as you know, they are not showing the video "THE HARD TRUTH" FULL VERSION...so, where is the freedom?

Gravatar So Scott, should we all boycott?

Gravatar Going straight for Godwin's law. Ballsy strategy.

Gravatar America will never have a bad name until its enemies destroy it.

Gravatar Thomas, could you or a reader enlighten me on prop#8,and what the California Bishops have said ? Should we all boycott AMP than?...are you on Google?

Gravatar That's it Anon, keep posting without a name!

Gravatar Will you lay down your lives for me?

Gravatar Again, better to try to change it than boycott.

Gravatar So Scott, should we all boycott?

I'm glad you asked "should" rather than "must". I've long held (and have not seen a better argument) that boycotts in general are discretionary rather than mandatory. I haven't fully decided on google/youtube just yet.

Gravatar Anonymous, you made me laugh. Comparisons to A.H. are so overdone they've become droll. I hope you weren't expecting to get a rise out that, because I'm still chuckling at the silliness of it.

Gravatar Bigots like our anonymous troll just can't help themselves. If they tried to contain their hate, they'd explode.

Gravatar bill912...you sound hostile,not Christ-like.

Gravatar Not all secularists are immoral without values.Perhaps that is what Anon meant with his comparison.

Gravatar secularists have no reason to subscribe to any 'set' of moral values that don't have a direct and positive impact on themselves. Its the nature of their religion. Its also somewhat limiting in scope.

Gravatar "you fools just can't stand freedom of speech."

Says the guy who goes to somebody else's blog to tell them to shut up and go do something else...

It is most obvious that if somebody here can't stand freedom of speech it's Anonymous.

Gravatar Ok, I am going to get really unpopular here, but as I see it this is an opportunity to turn the other cheek and in so doing this guy's 15 minutes of fame will end ASAP. Further, If we ask Youtube to censor this, then it's only a matter of time before they increase their censorship of things we happen to agree with. We can't have it both ways. Every opinion offends someone, every YouTube video offends someone. Calling on YouTube to censor it just tells YouTube that we're ok with censorship. I agree it is revolting, blasphemous, sophomoric, etc...and I agree that this guy has some serious hell to pay (literally) or, by God's grace some serious purgatory. And if I figured out he was using my parish as his resource I would lay down my life to prevent further desecration. But, if our society protects the freedom of the individual so long as the exercise of said freedom doesn't infringe on another's freedom, then our society protects him. It also protects Thomas's right to say what he wants on his blog, for me to say what I want on my blog, for Gerald of the defunct cafeteria to go as heterdox as he wants, etc. And, let's face it, it's not infringing on our freedom and equal protection for him to desecrate the Eucharist. We have to just follow Jesus's example and say, "forgive them, they know not what they do."

Gravatar Or, we can follow His example and take action.

Now, where did I leave my whip of cords?

Gravatar I would focus on being Catholic instead paying attention to such rubbish like Eucharistic desecration.

Gravatar We Catholics believe that the Eucharist is Jesus Himself. We love Him. That's why we get angry when people trash Him. We stand up for the One we love.

Gravatar bill,
my point is that people like those who desecrate the eucharist are just trying to draw attention onto themselves.

Gravatar If in any of those videos a validly consecrated Host has been desecrated we should be offering up prayers and fasting in reparation.

Gravatar Can't offensive videos be removed from YouTube? Do you have a link to demand that?

Gravatar Can't offensive videos be removed from YouTube? Do you have a link to demand that?

On any given video there is an option to flag as inappropriate. The staff reviews it apparently and if it violates Community Guidelines, they can pull it. As you can see from the guidlines, plenty can come under it certainly desecration falls under it. That's the beef. It's not that they censor stuff (they do), it's that they need to be consistent. If you are going to pull a pro-life video, it's absurd to allow desecration.

Gravatar In one of the videos he is seen on an altar in a tabernacle. A contact on a Catholic messageboard said he was able to identify the church as St. Felix de Cap-Rouge in Quebec-- he contacted the pastor and bishop. They identified the boy and have asked him to not step foot in a church again.

In another video, you can see a bag of hosts in the corner of the shot, so most of the videos are done with unconsecrated bread that people can order from church-supply catalogs.

It doesn't make his intent any better, but it drops my alarm bells a step or two.

Gravatar Thanks for the update!

Gravatar Chris:

I think your point is a good one, although I think it needs clarification. Like you, I believe Freedom of Speech is important. In fact, though some idiots hide behind it to insult religion and the religous, I think it remains a bulwark AGAINST the persecution of religions everywhere.

That being said, I still don't think it's necessary for YouTube to advocate censorship in order to pull a clip that's indecent.

Gravatar Maybe it'd be good to focus on the good things that YouTube provides for Catholics. Prayers, devotions, reflections...It's a lot harder to get offended if you stop looking for things to offend you.

Gravatar Wasn't some condiment boycotted[ketchup or mayonaise] and it had a positive result?Evidently, Ketchup or mayonaise isn't such a grave sacrifice like say barbeque sauce or google/youtube? Smells like sweet and sour hypocrisy.

Gravatar Respectfully, in my case, this has little to do with being offended. Frankly, I can look or listen to just about anything without getting offended as I've been around the block. What it is about is doing my best to avoid even remote material cooperation with evil. It's not always possible I'll grant (alternatives to YouTube will likely be difficult to come by for instance). But in short, if alternatives exist, I'm going to explore them.
