I prefer the current picture (the one with the sunglasses).
The older picture makes you look much friendlier and approachable. The newer picture looks like something that should be posted on a singles website (and not a nice Catholic one!).

Woo! I think this is one cool photo, Thomas--and it's self-consciously so to the extent where I think there's an obvious little wink of humour here to the viewer. But I like your shades-clad one, too. Can you run both?

Why not do both pictures?
I vote for the old pic, or perhaps a different new pic. The proposed new pic looks like you're trying to be a baddie. In short, I echo Melody and Redo - the older picture makes you look like someone I would want to get to know.
I prefer a pic of you without sunglasses. I saw the one of you with Amy Wellborn and really liked it. This new one is too alluring, it doesn't evoke the same tone as your blog.
But get rid of the dark shades. You have a very fresh, youthful face. Let it show.

Well you are quite good looking but my initial reaction was that this photo is kind of "Interview with the Vampire"-ish....
I'm sure you meant it to be impish.
I find it interesting that you did not just switch the photo. It looks like you are looking for an excuse to post a picture of yourself that you really like and want us to see. I notice you do that a lot. You never look natural in the pictures you post. You're always posing. You convey the message that you are a bit arrogant over your looks (which you shouldn't be) and that you search carefully for pictures that you perceive to portray you in exceptionally postive ways. Just be natural, Thomas. Stop being so fake and superficial.
You should go with the same picture you've got on the other blog. It has much more energy, giving off the fierce warrior look which is so markedly different than your James Dean impression. Who wants to read a blog by James Dean? Admittedly, it would be a pretty convincing impression if didn't know you.
Oh, you going on "searching" through your archives...which archives would those be? More camera phone pictures taken on a cell phone you just got? Get over yourself quick!
Thanks Dom, I'm beginning to realize that most people get a very wrong impression of me from this pic. I had hoped that including the tag "meaningless frivolity" would alert most readers. But sadly that doesn't appear to be the case. Apologies if I've offended anyone with my visage and obvious self-obsession. I mean, this is the fourth picture I've posted of myself in roughly 18 months, including the one that I use currently.

I think it very rude that hewson you would remark such things against someone who is just trying to put something fresh out. As our Catholic Church is finally coming back to it's roots by teaching children in catholic schools the Latin language and gregorian chant. I mean we havn't seen anything like this in a couple decades. Personally I think the picture is pretty good. Just because thom is throwing something new on his blog, (which by the way is his blog so he can do whatever he wants on it) He was just curiouse what his readers thought. I have been very impressed that he has been so polite in his replies and you should be ashamed of judging someone just by their picture. You shouldn't judge someone by their looks. So this was not to be rude or ill towards you, I just think you should be careful in your speech. I think everyone else gave just opinions and that's what thom was looking for. So Peace and Blessings Everyone.

This new picture doesn't make a "cool dude" impression. It looks too posed. I really like the shades in the older picture. It goes well with the "cool" theme shots of our rock-on Holy Father and the "hip" cardinal at the top of the page.

AM, I think you look sharp. I'm glad to see what your eyes look like--it makes more sense now that you are a student and a serious man.
I agree with others, though, that the up-collar look is not spiffy. Some people when they talk (or preach) make a gesture of emphasis that hides part of their face. It's the same mistake here.
