Gravatar But did you see the icky green color of the vestments for the Mass in Vienna/St Stephens Cathedral? However, I did like the vestments for the Vespers service.

Gravatar One week he wears green; the next week he wears blue and gold . . .

Unfortunately, none of this seems to be doing much good . . . Let's see whether he can come up with anything in time for the Michigan game!!

Gravatar Maybe this is so obvious so you don't comment on it here, but don't you think he was wearing blue in celebration of Our Lady's birthday since that's the color usually used to signify her? It's used often in Anglican and Anglo-Catholic liturgy when the day corresponds to some Marian feast day.
Just a thought,
Joy

Gravatar I don't know, Joy. Blue is, no wait, is not, a liturgical color (outside of Spain), so what's with the blue? My taste in clothes and colors is reputedly deplorable, but B16 has sported some pretty garish looking things the last year or so. No?

Gravatar Blue is the traditional color in Germany for Masses honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary. This dates before the Council of Trent. I think the host country provides the vestments for a papal Mass, so he is somewhat stuck with what is laid out for him--not that he shouldn't/couldn't have more oversight before the trip. One thing is for sure, that pallium does not go with the blue things. But then again, nothing does.

Gravatar Blue is also liturgical color for marian feasts in Slovakia. Slovakia was once part of Austrian-Hungarian empire so I think it is all the same.

Gravatar Clearly Pope Benedict is wearing blue vestments to support his recent calls for water conservation. Isn't it obvious?

Gravatar Even if it's liturgically correct in this context, it is still a hideous looking vestment. Crazy Marini.
