Allam's conversion was already news before it made the Vatican's daily news bulletin. The English headline doesn't reflect the nature of the bollettino story, which in the original Italian is titled "Declaration of the Director of the Holy See Press Office." The real core of the declaration is: "the Holy Father administers Baptism during the course of the Easter liturgy to the catechumens who have been presented to him, without making any 'distinction between people', in other words considering them all as equally important before the love of the Lord and welcome in the community of the Church." http://212.77.1.245/news_service...03.2008& lang=it

So, did the Holy See emphasize it? Yes, but only in so far as was necessary to respond to Italian media stories that were already circulating.

What I would be more interested to know is what the Pope himself thought about the emphasis. This could be a mistake of the press office. I still think the candidate himself could have designed the publicity.
