It is really a sign of the power of God's call that a successful young man like this would say yes to it. Despite the scandals of the past decade. Despite the pressure from family and friends. Despite the siren's call of the world. Deus vult.

Gravatar this is awesome! my priest just graduated from MSM in 2007

Gravatar That's a really good story. He'll make a good priest.

On an unimportant note, I wouldn't want to be the one who first calls him Father Hilgenbrinck :-D

Gravatar I hope this isn't inappropriate, but he's a cutie :)! Even more impt. he's quite a remarkable young man. St. Jean Vianney pray for him and all would-be priests. I know I always do.

Gravatar AM- I think the tradition of cute priests is a very old one. ;^p

To keep that nose unbroken, he must've been a really GOOD player, too.

This might help other folks figure out what that urge in their soul is.

Gravatar In the case of good looking priests I sometimes think that is a hard cross for them to bear b/c whether they what to or not they are going to get the wrong kind of attention at times, or attention for the wrong kind of reason. I know the story of an uncle of my husband who was a priest and had to get special dispensation from the bishop to not confess women. As if they do not have enough to deal with. Pray for them. And pray for this young man as well.

Gravatar Wonderful! He'll make a great priest, I'm sure!

There was a similiar situation in my area about 15 years ago. A young woman from an Air Force family was a standout basketball player in the local Catholic high school. She won a state championship, then went to Villanova University and had an equally outstanding career there, too. After graduation, there was no professional basketball league for women here in the US, so she went to Japan and played there. She was always a devout Catholic, and had a basketball camp for the youth where she distributed Rosaries and Scapulars to them. She made a lot of money playing basketball in Japan-but she chucked it all and became a Poor Clare nun in Virginia! She made her final vows not many years ago. (You might know where it is, Thomas: her monastery is called, "Mary Mother of the Church")
