K, let me FIRST say (again that you may want to say that your 'OLDER FRIEND' is someone you have KNOW a long time as appose to calling her old....just MY opinion . Anyhoot, I do think the means of sperm donotation is needed but I do think in the end, the child is left wondering 'what bout my other SELF'? The Oprah show was very informative but I think the most important part was towards the end. Since I had to watch it AGAIN @ nite cause I was on the phone with a slightly YOUNGER FRIEND , I really wanted to hear what the kids had to say & feel. The part about how the view of sperm donation is so 'abstract' & there's no real 'background check' they do concerns me. They even made reference to how blood is donated & regulated but w/ sperm donation it's a business. Life shouldn't be about 'business' and the reality IS it's forming anotha human YOU!!

Yeah, two red flags for random sperm...if that route become a true viable option...

1. Single parenting in this day and age

2. No sperm police to ensure that my donor #98whatever hasn't been sold to about fifty other women

Also, I'd like to know my child was conceived in love or at least with someone I once thought enough to have a relationsip and sleep with

But again, I am going to get married and then have children. I would consider adoption too.

At least with sperm donation, you know that the kid gets at least half of its genes from you. With adoption, it's a gamble. Some of these agencies are not very reputable and only give you info on the parents' background that they want you to know. Such as, withholding the mother's history of drug abuse and prostitution, but telling you that she lived a hard life and couldn't raise her baby.
