Funny, I just read this post over at FDL, which I found reassuring and actually somewhat inspiring. The End of the World isn't here quite yet, friends.

Yeah, I linked that over at AlterNet today, along with a good one of Digby's. I'm probably just feeling out of sorts because I'm really upset about Mrs. King. Specifically, the timing of her death, and what it feels like to me, as noted in the post.

It's coffeeblogging time!
At least that's what digby is doing to cheer up. Since it's too early to drink, seems like a good idea to me.

Mrs. King and Mrs. Parks could have given up when Bull Connor loosed the dogs and the hoses on marchers in Birmingham. I very well might have, not being much of a hero.
But they never did give up. We won't either. What you need is a nice bottle of wine and a hot bath.
Even Hitler lost eventually.

Shakes, I had the same thought about Ms. Parks & Ms. King's passing. I'm SURE it can't be coincidental. It's an ill wind that blows over this land today...

Of course, in times like this, I always recall the words of the eminent statesman, Senator John Blutarsky:
"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! "

Sucks to be us. And I think this country is going to have to spend some time in Purgatory before the sins of the neo-cons are all burned away. I think it's like you said-- the end of an era, and it's going to get a LOT worse before it starts to get any better.
In fact, I have a friend in Australia who's working at getting me a job over there so I can get the fuck out of here. I have a little daughter, and I don't want her to have to live through the shit-storm that's bearing down on us. It's gonna get ugly. Maybe I'm just an über-pessimist, but I honestly believe there's going to be blood in the streets and lots of shit blown up before this is all over, and America gets back to normal. IF it ever even does...

Sis,
Well, I'm glad at least to have some company wondering about the veracity of our own elections. I'm not into conspiracies as a rule, but it doesn't require paranoia to think maybe there is a problem when the head of the company that makes the voting machines swears to do everything 'in his power' to get his boy elected. Especially when the inner workings of the machine are classified a trade secret.

Since you brought up fair elections, come over to my place and see what you can do to get an amendment to the Help America Vote Act, which will push the deadline to be HAVA-compliant past the 2006 primaries.
Calling congress and otherwise taking action didn't stop when Alito got through, it became more important.

Hear, hear.
I've been oddly weepy today, too, Sis. I say oddly because it's not "that time of the month" and I can't really pinpoint any one thing that's depressing me--it's fucking everything. Later, I will be joining all the Shakers by toasting a brighter future with our various cocktails. It will be brighter. It has to be.
But first I will go running and listen to some really foul, nasty punk stuff on my iPod. My hatred of these smug, evil motherfuckers is right up there too, my friend. I almost punched the TV to get rid of Bill Frist earlier, then remembered the warranty doesn't cover political rage; in fact, Best Buy is probably fucking owned by Republicans just like everything else. Booooo.

I forgot to mention that there was a new moon on Sunday that's been affecting everybody funny. Most people I know have been feeling jittery, in a bad way, like they had too much coffee.

The moon! That has to be it. I mean, we've been dealing with BushCo for years now and we've all had to look at fucking Bill Frist et. al. on our TV screens, but throw in a new moon (or God forbid a full one) and it's logical that we'd be going slightly bonkers.
Thanks, Merciless. Makes sense to me, anyway.

Nice try John but seeing as how we see toothpaste Tony making an ass of himself practically every day over here it will take more than that to cheer me up on a day like today. Coretta King dying and a foul, lying prick like Alito being confirmed is about all I can take.
PS:Did you see stupid Tony trying to explain away the Moscow talking rock over there? He even looked stupider than our own Chimp. And that takes some doing.

I think the bath/wine idea is the best. I was planning to watch the SOTU in the hope of seeing him fall over drunk but after seeing the early summation it doesn't seem worth it.

Astrologically speaking, if my books are any indication (goddess knows I don't know what the hell I'm talking about) it should be a crazy, crazy year; Leos and Scorpios will get cumuppances; religious fervor will reach a fever pitch and consequently begin to go back toward some kind of rationality; a media personality may get busted; and a bunch of other things that may or may not happen.
One day at a time, sweeties. Wine and hot baths for everybody, stat!

Mr. Shakes is a Scorpio. I can't imagine what he'd get a comeuppance for, considering we've had one shitty blow after the next for the last year.

"We had trained hard ... but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization." ~Gaius Petronius (called Arbiter) 27-66 C.E.

As a person born "under the sign of Scorpio," let me grumble loudly about this retreat into astrological superstition.
Godwin's Law inhibits me from pointing out a previous regime that officially regarded astrology as science.
(And, as one born on 11/11, at 11:11:11 (so my parents tell me,) allow me also to remind everybody that the universe at large doesn't give a crap about our home-made calendars and numbering systems.)

just john, keep your pants on. I meant no offense to anyone, and specifically said in my post that I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I just threw it out there to see if the cat licked it up.
As for your birthday numbers, they're interesting numerologically, but numerology really is crap (law of small numbers and all).
Happy Wednesday, all!
