Gravatar Lautenberg & Menendez?? WHAT THE FUCK?

Gravatar Yeah, what happened in New Jersey? Oy.

Gravatar Lieberman voted for it? I'm SHOCKED I tell you! SHOCKED!

Gravatar Yep. America has gone insane. This has been a soul-crushing week.

Gravatar What a surprise, Lieberman voted for torture............

Gravatar Lieberman is a fucking piece of shit. Lamont should go to town with this vote. I want to see ads running 24x7 talking about Mr. Morality's support for torture.

The cold, hard fact is that Joe Lieberman voted for George Bush to be Dictator yesterday. If that doesn't doom him, then I despair not just for my country, but for my state specifically.

Gravatar First, now we see why Reid gave away the right to filibuster.

Second, I agree, Lieberman is toast. Lamont should be able to use this to motivate his supporters big time.

I think this plays against Santorum, too, but I'm less sure. What does it mean in Ohio? Hard to say.

I agree, the NJ votes are odd.

I also intend to hold this vote against the "3 amigos". I'm done with Graham, Warner, and especially John McCain. He definitely should know better.

Gravatar Lieberman is toast

Ugh. Poor choice of words.

Gravatar I am so angry. Like an idiot, I voted for Salazar because he was a Democrat, and better than voting for Pete Coors. I should have known better.

I'll be damned if I make that mistake again. I can't wait until the little maggot is up for re-election.

Gravatar I live in NJ and I am stunned. I'll be contacting both offices for some "clarification" on their position.

Gravatar Spector deserves our scorn, as well. He's always got something to say about this or that - as if he knows best. Then he votes like a complete fucktard every single time.

What a useless group of fucking assholes.

(Sorry, can't be clever about this...)

Gravatar I don't know what the hell my Senator Nelson was thinking. It's not like him to do something like this. Maybe he thought if he voted the other way Katerine Harris would campaign on his vote. Jesus, anyone who would vote for her because of his vote would be insane. Oh, I forgot, this is Florida and lots of insanity runs wild down here. Exhibit one: This state voted not once but twice for Jeb bush.

Gravatar I don't know what the hell my Senator Nelson was thinking.
Yeah, what the fuck? And what's our alternative? I can't vote for Harris. I am going to send a nasty letter to Nelson, for all the good it'll do.

Gravatar I wrote Diane Feinstein about this and got an ambivalent reply so I wasn't sure how she was going to vote. I am glad her name is not on the list.

Gravatar Lautenberg staffer: He voted for the amendments that were put forth prior to their being scrapped. The line is that he voted for the bill as a good starting point against detainees that "definitely had something to do with 9/11", given the dead former constituents. I pointed out that if we were to demonstrate, we could be seen as enemy combatants and tossed in the brig. Staffer seems to think that our rights of speech and assembly would protect us (yea, while we rot in prison during their legal debates).

Menendez staffer: Also voted for the amendments that never got passed, and that it was "either vote for this or do nothing." I ran rings around this person. She thought my comment about anyone being seen as an enemy combatant was a "real stretch", and laughed. I laughed back and said that a president shitting on the Constitution was a real stretch at one time too. That silenced her. She was in over her head and threw me to someone else's voice mail.

It sounds like both offices prepared the same speech so that they're unified.

Gravatar COWARDS. Elected to represent the people, they represent the corporations. Charged with defending the Constitution, they rip it to shreds. Accused of selling our country "down the river", they blatantly lie. LIE TO OUR FACES! If anybody wants to know why so many hate this Congress, they only have to look at yesterday's vote.

Gravatar She thought my comment about anyone being seen as an enemy combatant was a "real stretch", and laughed.

That's a nice fucking response to a constituent who is genuinely concerned about whether his/her speech, political views, etc. could land him/her in jail.

Gravatar I note the irony of Chafee, who was in exactly the same sort of primary Lieberman was in, voted against the bill.
Lieberman for Lieberman, loser of his primary votes for it.

Gravatar Spector deserves our scorn, as well. He's always got something to say about this or that - as if he knows best. Then he votes like a complete fucktard every single time.

Welcome to "moderate" Republicanism in a time of fascism.....

I believe another prominent "moderate", Susan Collins of Maine, also voted for this, didn't she?

Gravatar We have to throw these motherfuckers out of office.

I'm disgusted with my party right now, but at least I can cast a proud vote for Ned Lamont.

I contacted all my elected officials prior to the votes. All of them except for Lieberman voted the right way.

Gravatar I note the irony of Chafee, who was in exactly the same sort of primary Lieberman was in, voted against the bill.

Respectfully beg to differ. Lieberman was in a Democratic Party primary, Chafee was in a Republican Party primary, and in a more liberal state than CT.

Gravatar I really envy the folks in Connecticut these days. At least when you cast your vote in November you can feel like you're throwing the bum out for someone better.

We're in IL-06. Our rep in the house is Melissa Bean. This election I can vote for Batshit crazy Republican, Republican lite, or liberal spoiler. I'll probably bitch and moan for a month then suck it up vote for the Democrat, and donate to her primary challenger in 2008.

Gravatar Yeah, I realize that Chafee's a Republican. I simply meant that he was also involved in a hard fought primary (which he won, unlike Lieberman).

Gravatar i'm surprised the spin pitchers aren't blowing rotator cuffs all over town. i heard one of them saying that he trusted the courts will destroy this. when i was in high school one of my most treasured possessions was an autographed copy of profiles in courage by JFK (i still have it). he outlined several instances in the history of congress where one person (most often all alone) took a principled stand and at great cost to themselves did what they thought was right for the nation. what ever simpering deals that fuckwit reid cut to "not filibuster" no one in his party chose to say they didn't want to go along with that. what were these cowards waiting for? cheney to take bush on a hunting trip and do the fucking job for them? if their excuse is that a vote against this bill would have hurt their chances for re-election then i say they want the job too fucking much. if they think that they are more important as a member of congress to the nation than the constitution they just spit upon they need to find other work anyway. fuck them all. assholes and cowards the lot of them.

Gravatar Here's my letter to Stanenbow.

Senator Stanenbow,

I have seen your vote to support the socipathic behavior of torture as an American value.

I am telling you here and now, under NO circumstances will you ever receive any vote or support from me.

It is impossible for me to support anyone that gives permission to torture and supports indefinite detention. It is a repulsive, reprehensible and heinous personal characteristic that I can not tolerate nor abide.

You will never receive any votes nor support from me again, ever.

Gravatar Yea! Let us embrace the new police state. It's fantastic! I already feel safer.

Gravatar More on who these so-called Democratic senators are at Tom Tomorrow's This Modern world site:

http://thismodernworld.com/3210

Gravatar People in Florida who want an alternative to Bill Nelson-and by the way his pro-torture vote doesn't surprise me at all-vote for Brian Moore. He's an independent, anti-war candidate. Nelson is so far out in front that voting for Moore is not going to endanger Nelson's win. Moore's website is www.votebrianmoore.com
I live in St. Augustine and am voting for Moore.

Gravatar I think this has to be the worst fucking week in my whole long life. First I get the news that two more members of my family have cancer and then this horror.

I can definitely see vino tinto sticking it's nose above the horizon.

Gravatar I'm reminded of the words of that great (fictional) president, Andrew Shepard, "I was so busy keeping my job, I forgot to do my job."

If that doesn't describe the democrats, I don't know what does.

Gravatar Rockefeller is my senator and will get a scathing letter (which I'm sure will land in the round file). Bur I'll let him know how I feel. He's not up for re-election this year. But I won't vote for him again.
