Gravatar at least they get the joke. colbert's run reminds me of pat paulson (one of the better dead pan comics ever, he makes steven wright look florid). one of the things that those of us who take our politics seriously tend to forget is that for most folks the whole process, the whole thing is a joke. colbert gives them somebody to laugh at who is actually looking for the laugh.

Gravatar but he didn't manage to infect russert. dude is either a total tightass or stupid. or a stupid tightass. or a tightass stupid motherfucker.

Gravatar Ha! Russert did look dumb trying to play along but at least he tried.

Gravatar Kudos for Ms. Wells for taking the joke and running with it. :D

Gravatar This is a very smart move by the Edwards team. Excellent way to get more people on their side; have a sense of humor, and show you get it. Bravo.

Gravatar I can't stop laughing! Good on the Edwards campaign.

Gravatar Off Topic -

Shakes,

Look at this. Just go look. It is not a parody, this product is for sale and was just advertised on the radio station I am listening to at work. (Sports station football pre-game show)

Needless to say, it won't be hanging in my pool room.

Gravatar Sir Robin, did you notice the link to "Send a Rack to Iraq"? That is just vile.

Gravatar Sir Robin, did you notice the link to "Send a Rack to Iraq"? That is just vile.

Yes! And you just know they've sold a shit-load of these.

Gravatar "What is more troubling than [Stephen Colbert's] quest for a status his own mother won't grant him (favorite son)"

Ehhh, I'm gonna sound like a stick in the mud, but most people that know about Colbert's background might find that reference a bit disconcerting.

What Colbert said was, "And not my mother's favorite son. She is much too fair-minded to ever show a preference between the eight of us. Right, Mom?"

See, two of the eight of Colbert's brothers died in a plane crash along with his father in 1974, so to draw attention to this is a little unconfortable...

Then, again, we all have our humor hang ups...

Gravatar ...so to draw attention to this is a little (unconfortable) ....

But then, again, JFH is ever so quick to bring this to the fore ......hang ups indeed ...

Gravatar My father's dead. Don't anyone make dad jokes! Ever!

/concern troll douchebaggery.

Gravatar Rodney Dangerfield made a nice living telling "wife" jokes, even though he was long since widowed...

...during a Q&A session with the audience, someone asked him something about his wife, did she mind all the jokes.

"I'm not married," Dangerfield replied.

Gravatar FWIW --- when we had to pick out a flower arrangement for Dad's funeral, we opted to have "BELOVED FATHER" put on the ribbon, even though we all knew that he would have gotten a kick out of it had we gone with "MEAN OLD BASTARD" instead.

We didn't think anyone *else* would get the joke, though.

I really want "MEAN OLD BASTARD" put on my ribbon, though.

Gravatar What Colbert said was, "And not my mother's favorite son. She is much too fair-minded to ever show a preference between the eight of us. Right, Mom?"

So it's uncomfortable to bring up Colbert's family in the exact way and context that he himself brought it up?

Boy, he must be one thin-skinned individual.

Kudos to the Edwards camp for playing along.

Gravatar And it's even more awesome when you look at in the context of what the OTHER top-tier un-Hillary is doing -- defending having a closeted homobigot as a public face of HIS campaign.

Gravatar my dad died over memorial day weekend.
he had been ill for a long time and he had been a real hellraiser until he quit drinking.

i peeled the bumper sticker from his old station wagon and mounted it on cardboard and put it in his casket.

it read, "heaven doesn't want me and hell's afraid i'll take over."

the priest got pissed off and wanted me to take it out but i just smiled and said that my dad was taking it with him.

fuck that priest. he never knew my father.

i know my dad enjoyed the hell out of that bumper sticker.

Gravatar that cnn article is *poof* gone...
bummer...i linked to it on my own page...grrr
WTF?

Gravatar So this man in England urinated on a DYING woman while shouting "this is YouTube material." Think about that and then let people ask why those disembodied-female-body-part-urinals might be a bad idea.

Gravatar Bunny, I posted about that very story in September. I didn't pull it together with the woman-as-toilets, though. Well remembered.
