at least they get the joke. colbert's run reminds me of pat paulson (one of the better dead pan comics ever, he makes steven wright look florid). one of the things that those of us who take our politics seriously tend to forget is that for most folks the whole process, the whole thing is a joke. colbert gives them somebody to laugh at who is actually looking for the laugh.
but he didn't manage to infect russert. dude is either a total tightass or stupid. or a stupid tightass. or a tightass stupid motherfucker.
Ha! Russert did look dumb trying to play along but at least he tried.
Kudos for Ms. Wells for taking the joke and running with it. :D
This is a very smart move by the Edwards team. Excellent way to get more people on their side; have a sense of humor, and show you get it. Bravo.

FWIW --- when we had to pick out a flower arrangement for Dad's funeral, we opted to have "BELOVED FATHER" put on the ribbon, even though we all knew that he would have gotten a kick out of it had we gone with "MEAN OLD BASTARD" instead.

my dad died over memorial day weekend.
