Gravatar I want you to know that I put off a trip to Home Depot this morning to watch Sen. Clinton on MTP this morning. It was worth it to see the reactions of Mr. Russert. There were times when he looked like he'd found a mouse in his milk.

(BTW, the trip to Home Depot was very important. We're having a flea infestation in the neighborhood -- my ankles look like a pizza -- and I waited an extra hour to go get the WMD's for the fleas. [scratch, scratch])

Gravatar You know, I think that we don't want anyone, any of our supporters, anyone--and that's why in my campaign, any time anybody has said anything that I thought was out of bounds, they're gone, you know? I have gotten rid of them, I have said that is not appropriate in this campaign.

I would love to know more specifics about that, especially in light of recent criticisms that go beyond the two specific things brought up here. I really want to believe it's true, 'cause I like her, and interviews like this are exactly why I like her.

Gravatar sh and bill likely paid the founder of BET to say what he did about obama...just another factor I believe that is leading to the fall of America.... poor mr or mrs next president nice blog,

Gravatar My admiration for her is growing daily.

Gravatar I want you to know that I put off a trip to Home Depot this morning to watch Sen. Clinton on MTP

My poor dog had to wait for his morning walk while I watched -- but somehow he sensed that it was the right thing to do and waited quite patiently!

Gravatar I really wish her MTP appearance put my reservations to bed, but I'm still deeply offended by the pre and post Iowa incidents that she was taking credit for swiftly addressing.

That pattern of baiting and then firing isn't cause for praise. I'm also unable to give her a pass on that LBJ mess when it came on the heels of Steinem's Op Ed.

I remain disturbed and undecided and I'm moving towards uninspired.

Gravatar Last I heard, the Obama campaign only just mentioned a vague statement about Ms. Hillary's slips of the tongue, its been the black and some white voters who have been taking her to task.

Gravatar Say what you will, she handled this interview quite well, at least in this portion (I slept through MTP this morning).

Grudgingly, I have to admit she's impressing me more and more. I
still wish Edwards had a shot, but I'm less turned off by her than I was.

Gravatar This interview doesn't put my concerns to rest. Poised, yes, intelligent, certainly -- but it strikes me as a lot of "talk around".

If Hillary doesn't think that Obama is experienced enough to do the job, there are a million and one ways to say that without invoking either MLK or using the word "dream" (especially in close proximity).

And if you're a white person, and two black people whom you claim to respect and who do not support Obama are telling you that your remarks upset and disturb them -- for God's sake - Get on the CLUE BUS!!!! and take a look at your privilege.

Much as I'd like to feel better about it all, her general tone seems unrepentant -- and that bothers me -- if a candidate wants to represent all the people of our country -- shouldn't that candidate CARE about how their actions and words affect those people?

Gravatar I just found this

http://www.samesexconflicts.com/...rt-of- doma.html

and wondered what it means. Did anyone else see this?

Gravatar Ok I see Obama feels the same way.

http://www.samesexconflicts.com/...ort-doma- 2.html

Just looking for issues in which they differ but there is no there there. I read in another blog comment where they did differ on this issue but not true. In the immortal words of Emily Latella "Nevermind".

Gravatar But then I find this...
http://i.abcnews.com/Politics/De...=3468949& page=2

I'm so confused...However the full repeal would certianly be better for me.

Gravatar Alright, after really looking into it, for some actual substantive differences in thier positions which will directly affect me in my life, I have to say with Obama actually saying he'd repeal all portions of DOMA and Clinton only offering to repeal section 3 there is no way I can vote for her in the primary and I can really hope that she loses to Obama. I did not like his inviting McClurkin on tour but in the real world of setting policy he's the better of the two. In 2009 when we have a new president do I want to still have to deal with any portion of DOMA, hell no.

Gravatar I watched the entire show and thought she handled the interview extremely well.
I have gone from being a strong Obama supporter to an even stronger Clinton supporter in about one week's time. I admire her SO much. She is very self-assured, calm, rational and bright. And she battles on despite attacks from those who call her cold in one breath and an emotional wreck in the next. What they really mean is no matter how you handle yourself, if you are a woman, we will make sure you're perceived negatively.

Anyway, that was kind of off-topic. But at this point I have come around to believing her experience and judgement is preferable to Obama's optimism. He has hope. But what's he going to do about it? He still hasn't told us.

I dare anyone who watched this MTP to belittle her in a gendered way.

Gravatar SarahMC:

"He has hope. But what's he going to do about it?"

Well, for one thing he's going to repeal all of DOMA and not hold onto a single discriminatory portion like your newfound hero.

Gravatar Jersey, thanks for tracking down the ABC News story that clarifies Obama's position on DOMA. I have updated my blog post at http://www.samesexconflicts.com/...ort-doma- 2.html.

Gravatar Stephen, you are very welcome. I'm glad I found it too. It makes a big difference to me.

Gravatar

TPM has more on Hillary's remarks and The New York Times continual truncating of her initial comments and the ramifications of distortion.

Considering WJC's famous parse "It depends on what the meaning of the words 'is' is." and "It depends on how you define alone...", I would say that she has more than a passing familiarity with truncation and the ramifications of distortion.

Gravatar OK Jersey. Is it necessary for you to be hostile to me personally? I am interested in Obama's plans.
But I have heard much more policy-wise from Clinton and not much at all besides "Hope" from Obama.
Do you think I should ignore that in order to vote for the person who wants to repeal the DOMA? Would he even have the authority to do so?

Gravatar I hate Tim Russert.

Gravatar Sarah, I was not being hostile to you. I too am looking for the specific differences between these candidates so I can make an informed judgement. I have my gut feelings on the matter and as we all see the MSM will not give us the info we need to make a good decision so I'm going looking for it. In the past few days I have only seen airtime devoted to Hillary's speeches, I have not seen the media give any time to Obama or Edwards or Kucinich (who I suppose is still in the race). You said you haven't heard anything from Obama but I don't think its his fault, he is not getting the preferential treatment from the media as he's not thier darling right now. It is obviously up to us to find out the candidate's stands on matters that really mean something to our lives. Oh and yes if he's elected he surely can do something about DOMA no matter what the naysayers would have you believe. He can lead the charge to repeal it and he would have 4 years to make it happen from that "bully pulpit". And he has told us he will. I do think he has the ability to bring enough people on board to do that. Unfortunately, right from the beginning Hillary is only promising to dismantle a portion of it. I'm sorry but in her war votes and this DOMA stance she's not brave enough for me. Her ideas are simply too "inside the box".

Gravatar I will admit that I have been looking into Hillary's shortcomings without looking so hard for those of Obama. So now hit me with the asinine things Obama proposes, seriously because I know there are bound to be some out there. My partner who is a nurse prefers Hillary's health care plan to Obama's and from his standpiont in healthcare I take his opinion seriously lets have some more...

Gravatar So you admit that you have been looking for reasons to reject Clinton, Jersey?

I would truly be happy if any of the top Dem candidates won in November.

But at this point in time, 2008, I think I will vote for the person I consider the safer bet. She is a brilliant woman with 35 years experience fighting for people. She has a very good track record when it comes to women and children. I prefer her healthcare plan to Obama's and Edwards'.

I think that because she is so familiar with how Washington works, she will more effectively fight the right-wingers and more effectively work with international friends and foes.

Obama criticizes her for supporting the war, but that's easy to say when you didn't have to make the choice yourself. We have no way of knowing whether Obama would have voted for the war or simply voted "present," which is something he's done many times. And that alarms me. Initially I was sucked in by his campaign theme, but after doing some research I became alarmed by his failure to take a stand on issues in the Senate. Clinton may have made choices I disagree with, but at least she has never been a coward.

I think she knows what she's doing, and has no illusions about how the next few years will be for America and the world. I don't want our next president to be surprised by the pile of shit Bush will leave behind. I want him/her to be ready to attack. As far as I can tell, Obama is not ready for that yet. But it'll be great if he is some day.

Gravatar Actually I have been looking for reasons to feel good if she becomes our next president as apparantly the establishment and media want. Check further into those "present" votes of Obama's though, there are legitimate reasons.

Gravatar Ok figured I'd link to Obama's explanation for at least some of the present votes which to me sound solid...

http://thecapitolfaxblog.com/200...-present-votes/

if I find a link from planned parenthood I'll post it.

Gravatar Sarah, here's a link with the statement from some bigshot at planned parenthood the specific quote is in bold...

http://mediamatters.org/items/20...ms/ 200712140004

Decide what you will about Clinton after reading it.

Gravatar What an incredible person. I view that tape and think about what she's busted through over the years to be sitting there and speaking with that jerk like that.

Thank you for sharing it. And thanks to all the writers here for a great gutsy website with integrity.

I hope to have a chance to read (and perhaps vent) again.

Gravatar I don't want our next president to be surprised by the pile of shit Bush will leave behind.

Whoever you support, know that this is going to be the biggest time killer. Before anyone can get started on their own agenda, there're all kinds of rats' nests to be first dealt with.

ps As an Edwards supporter, I think we'll be good with whoever gets the nomination. Consider the 7 fascist Dwarves on the other side, makes it easy to choose.

Gravatar The thing that really frosted me was Russert grilling her on her war vote...

and yet all this time, nary a word about the administration who LIED to make it possible...

Don't get me wrong, she's my Senator, and I would be thrilled every shade of pink if she had been a fighter during this dark time... yet, she wasn't that rowdy, that visible, that outraged. Despite many many emails from me all but begging her to do so.

Why not?
