Fabulous as DvF is in so many ways, she does not know Dietrich movies. "Foreign Affair" is NOT a movie about an entertainer/spy who escapes from Berlin to Shanghai to NY. Instead, it's post-WWII Berlin and Dietrich plays a singer who had been the mistress of a highly placed Nazi official. She is being romanced by an American officer; an affair which is countenanced by the US Army brass in the hopes that the affair will bring the Nazi official out of hiding. Complicating matters is Jean Arthur, who plays a Congresswoman visting Berlin on a fact-finding mission (because Congressional junkets are nothing new) and falls in love with the same Army officer. (I had to make this comment, because I've been irritated about this since first seeing the episode.)
