Ah, how I remember the days of gaming on DOS. Everything ran at around ten frames per second, and nobody cared.
Nowadays? Crowds laugh if you can't get sixty on high-detail games like Crysis. With the advent of faster and faster engine and graphics processing, programmers spend less time optimizing their code to run and instead focus on getting the game out the door as fast as humanly possible. The unfortunate side-effect is that you can't play one month's game on last month's hardware.
