Ironies of ironies: Literally hours after publishing the post, I came across not one but two bills defaced by stamps adorned with the words "Track me at www.wheresgeorge.com." I looked them up, and discovered that one had traveled across the state and the other had traveled all the way from California. Small world!

I rarely come across any "older" currency. When I do find it, I hold onto it. I have a series 1963 $5 (with red seal and serials), a series 1969 $10, a series 1981 $10, a series 1990 $20, and a series 1993 $20 and numerous series 1976 $2 notes.

So far, I've found series 1977, 1985, 1988, and 1988A $1 bills (including a few web-press notes), series 1974 and 1981 $5 notes (plus a series 1985 that I didn't save since I didn't have anything to swap it with at the time), series 1977 and 1993 $10 notes, and a 1988A $20. Nowadays, anything older than series 1995 tends to be an uncommon sight.
Congrats on the '63 $5 with the red seal: I'd love to find something that cool in circulation myself!

I came across that site awhile back and did exactly the same thing, coming to exactly the same conclusions. :)
I've never seen one stamped since, and this was a few years ago.
It's also been years since I've seen one with the little speech balloon making "I grew pot!" come out of George's mouth stamped on it.
I've also never come across any of the bills on which I had blacked-out "In God We Trust". I used to do that with all my singles. Kept a marker in my pocket.

Hey -- you just entered one of *my* bills yesterday!
Followed your profile link to your site. I think I love your license plates. Why no DC "taxation without representation" plates? Those are my favorites.

At a subway token booth in Boston, I picked up a Series 1963A $5 which was unfolded and crisp. It had a green seal. Not too long after that, I found a Series 1969 $5. Both bills are lying on a shelf now.
I remember when nearly all the $1 bills were Series 1988A.

Wow, what a lot of feedback! Thanks, guys. :-)
Thanks for letting me know as to where the bill with the red cat stamp came from! I'll spend it soon. D.C. plates are definitely distinctive, but they're not easy to come by...
It did seem as if nearly every dollar bill in circulation was Series 1988A throughout the first half of the '90s. I remember that Series 1993 and 1995 seemed to appear near-simultaneously, then later the 1999s started to creep in. I stopped paying attention for a while after Series 2001 made its appearance.
