The Andrew Turnbull Family of Fine Websites

Gravatar This is a case where it sounds like you should have put on a clean install of 98, or better yet, 2000 (which I consider to be the last decent version of Windows). I've always found it quicker and easier to re-install and re-download everything than to try to get it all off and out (of the Registry too, that can be hell).

Or, better yet, if this was only a basic Internet/wordprocessor/music workstation (as I can imagine a computer that old would be), give Linux a try. I've been installing it on outdated non-booting Windows NT 4 machines at my old school, and AFAIK they're getting along fine with it.
