Inconsistent editorial policy at the New Yorker is unsurprising if you glance at the biography of Si Newhouse Jr, its owner. Like so many media moguls, his wealth is cloaked in mystery and the Newhouse empire remains a private corporation. One wonders how his father, a lowly office boy, gained control of 25 newspapers, most of them monopolies. How and why does Si Jr go on losing millions of dollars a year on the New Yorker? What role did Alexander Liberman, a Russian, play in the previously ambitionless Si Jr.'s rise to power in the family set-up?

Of course al-Ansar and Zarakawi in Iraqi Kurdistan were totally and completely under the control of Saddam -- at least we're asked to believe that. Was it two or three times the Bushies refused an opportunity to take out Zarakawi lest it weaken their case for the war?

Some of the anti-Semitism in these comments is repellant and does xymphora no favours. Anti-Israel (and, more specifically, anti-Sharon and his fascist regime) is very different from anti-Jew. It is comments such as that from 'Tom Bubbly' above that will inevitably be used to discredit the entire site as anti-Semitic, thereby dismissing its message entirely.
