T.E.Lawrence had to know about insurgency, because it was his job to whip up the camel-riders against their lords and masters of the Grand Porte. The idea was to help the Arabs to wrest control from Turkey of the near- and middle-eastern oilfields so that the British navy could run on bunker fuel instead of Welsh coal---once the puppet governments had been put in power in the former Turkish provinces that were carved up into phoney statelets. The Zionists were promised a statelet of their own at this time (1917), which was planned to be a guardian of UK oil interests "going forward". One snag: the promise to grant Zionists Israel was dependent on the Jews not offending or displacing the current residents of the area, a crucial proviso that the founding fathers (terror bombers all, by the way) rather overlooked.

The Telegraph is allegedly used to spread the propaganda of the security services.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/
...xportaltop.html
From the Sunday telegraph, 31 July 2005:
Scotland Yard is investigating evidence that the two waves of terrorist attacks on London this month may have been masterminded from Saudi Arabia.
The Metropolitan Police anti-terrorist squad has learnt that Hussain Osman, 27, one of the suspects for the second failed attacks, called a number in Saudi Arabia hours before his arrest in Rome on Friday...
In an unconfirmed development, the Saudi Arabian authorities are understood to be investigating the possibility that the attacks were planned by extremists there...
Security sources in Italy said he made four calls on Friday: three local calls apparently to relatives and, the most interesting one, to a mobile phone in Saudi Arabia. Scotland Yard is trying to discover who took that call.
Saudi Arabia, which has good relations with the West, has been embarrassed by its links to international terrorism. Not only is it bin Laden's home country but 15 of the September 11 terrorists were from the kingdom.

"There is more speculation about the possible collusion between al-Qaeda and Saudi Arabia."
http://
www.informationclearingho...article8695.htm
The Shalom Center 04/28/05 has an article about Saudi Arabia.
Sharon's National Security Advisor (and former Mossad chief), Efraim Halevy said:
"In a visit to the United States two weeks ago, I was told by several well-informed observers that should one of the more severe scenarios come to pass, the United States will have no choice but to deepen its presence in the Middle East. To that end, it will have to renew the draft, to ensure that there are enough forces to deal with developing situations in countries like Saudi Arabia."
The 'scenario' being talked about is upheaval in Saudi Arabia....

copperative - Judging by the Lawrence article, renewing the draft is not sufficient in this instance. Not only that, the lines of supply are still going to be stretched to the max for the technologically superior nation - and there is no high tech without long lines of trade etc., except on the short term (as Germany in WWII).
While neocons mocked "appeasement" towards Arab countries, in fact this is what we have done with Saudi Arabia since 2001. Why? No grease, no oil.
Lawrence's picture of how to beat an insurgency presupposes you haven't already blown your chances as badly as the US and Britain have done in Iraq. But woodenheadedness sets in when people try to throw good money after bad rather than cut their losses. Barbara Tuchman describes this in her book, The March of Folly.
I'm afraid that we are joining the march with the Germans and Austrians and other once powerful nations. Contrary also to what neocons may suppose (whipping up moral fervor while cynically believing in sheer force), the moral compass was thrown out with Shock and Awe. We are going to get our comeuppance, and the insurgency is proving it. It is just a matter of how long it takes.
And yes, the Halevy character would probably be told by some coterie close to him that we're sending in more soldiers by a draft. He probably thinks this is a good idea, from his perspective. But this can only happen if there is an attack worse than 9/11 -- and it still won't spell final victory, if Lawrence is correct. Not even Pyrrhic victory. Such a desperate measure to shore up profits in the Mideast will not be taken up by the People who still think they have a voice in a Constitutionally governed US. Even if there are thugs to try and put it forth, this will only result in civil unrest such as we have never seen even in Vietnam.

When you read all the barbaric crap and brainless nonsense-smalltalk the so-called 'normal people' come up with fx. at the BBC homepages ('Have your say'!), you suddenly understand that nothing has really happened since Hitler, except the normalization and globalization of nazi mentality through the media. It's everywhere now, there's nowhere to escape to as there still was in the thirties.
Unfortunately almost no man anywhere was able to foresee that in due time. And no insurgency will be able to stop it. It's too late for mankind, the lunatics have taken over the asylum and globalized it.

Anon - No, an insurgency cannot stop a Nazi mentality. Insurgencies can kill people who invade and can develop ever-stronger support networks among those who choose to support them.
But the mentality we currently see in the elites in Britain and the US is as unkillable as is "Islamic fundamentalism" - that was the neocon error, that invading a place would change minds in the favor of the invader. In fact it changed minds ABOUT the invader, and removed all doubt from those who thought it was benign. A series of insults from the beginning (it almost seems deliberate on Rumsfeld's part, with neocons whispering in his good ear) ruined any chances for a peaceful removal of Saddam (if they ever existed). Friends were turned overnight to enemies (although how could anyone accept Shock and Awe?)
So here's the deal: invaders who wreck your country will be hated. But you can only destroy their physical bodies, not their woodenheaded doctrines. In the end, that will suffice.

No, that won't 'suffice', in fact it will just make things even worse. Because, as I wrote, the nazi mentality has been globalized, it's everywhere, just have a look at the dataplays. Where there's no longer any culture to speak of, it's too late. It's all a sign that mankind isn't capable of surviving its most backward and hence dominating individuals. You can watch these signs every evening on your TV-set, or you can read them in the papers.
Around 1945, there was still the artificial hope. Since then, the vital systems of nature have been destroyed, and now we are only waiting to see the full conseqences of that, climatic collapse and so on, while people are jubilating over "Discovery" and all this crap.

Gee, I had to think about that one----for about a microsecond. How about Vercingetorix in the Roman Empire's greatest triumph of all: the defeat of Gaul? Julius Sneezer the Roman Geezer gives us chapter and verse in his memoirs. He didn't just totally smash the insurgency, he kept Vercingetorix in a deep dungeon for over 10 years, until he had time to arrange a massive Triumph in Rome, whereupon V was dragged out into the sunshine, hauled along behind the Triumph in chains, then ritualistically thrown off the Tarpeian Rock. Definitive end to Gallic insurgency. Result? France. Will that do? I can cite a dozen others.

Let's not complicate things in fancy language. Let's speak Englis- plain and simple, so that everyone can understand.
This talk of "insurgency" and "terrorist' and rebels, what are they really. Rebels to what? It certainly is NOT rebellion, because it's not their laws or government to rebel against! It's American invaders!
Americans have always known well how to invade- to keep it short: Since the 1900s- they have invaded the KIngdom of Hawaii, the Philippines, Panama, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Korea, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Haiti,
Viet Nam, Afghanistan and Iraq.
How's that for invading?
And yet they have the nerve to speak of rebellion in those countries.
And the people against the invaders, are actually DEFENDERS AND PATRIOTS.

Cheney is planning to tactically nuke Iran is response to another 9/11-type event within the US. The order is to strike immidiately, guilt is not an issue. They call it 'Cheney's guns of August'
They may kill us all. It may herald the looming Apocalypse that Bush-Co is so heavily invested in. Time will tell.
I'm watching the news right now. Todays top-story - A new type of squid discovered. Amid dwindling energy-supplies, a plunging dollar, climate changes and madmen in charge, a new type of squid is what they feel is important?
I despise humanity - It makes me sick that a talking, easily manipulated monkey should be the destroyer of this beautiful place. Our only redeeming quality is the children, the hope for a better generation than ours, and look what we're doing to their home.
Bring on the apocalypse, I don't care anymore. We're all smiling killers, consumption addicted idiots on a highway to radioactive hell because of the system we designed to govern wealth and private property, amazing isn't it, capitalism (greed) is going to be the end of humanity, HAHAHAHAHA!

eelpie - the supply lines are still stretched thin and choppers have been shot down -- how to supply Iraq in the long term, so that the military might prevail? - isn't it obvious that the only hope in many instances has been ingenuity on the part of scrounging American troops from poor backgrounds -- but how many and how long until they are overrun?
The Romans were eventually defeated by all sorts of insurgencies. The result was the destruction of their way of life for centuries to come. Sure, they moved their capital, tweaked things in various ways, but the Motherland succumbed to barbarians.

I suspect that when the U.S. government finds that it must be forced back into it's gates the thought will occur to them to lay down a blanket of tactical nukes, just to keep the barbarians at bay.
The problem about using nukes has been that there would be consequences. That is, one would expect a civilization would rise up to punish anyone who would use the things on the defenseless. But, who, I have wondered, punishes the punishers?
And, if the U'S. finds it can no longer afford a world wide reach, there would probably not be much economy or civilization left in the place. Such hungry locations are just the lands from which the barbarians came from when they went to Rome, weren't they?
Therefore, we who forsee these scenarios should find ways to prevent them. We aren't going to just fall in on ourselves, but likely take others with us.

Trying to make sense of the current situation, I've been boning up on ancient history ( why start in mid story when you can go back to the last ice age and work your way up?) Looking at the way people forced their way into each other's territory, there was always a compelling reason. The compelling reason now is surely oil.
If we all were to find ways to free ourselves from need for oil, we'd be above the fray of this conflict in Iraq. But as long as we are consuming material goods, and not producing our own food, nor getting anywhere via our own steam...then I suppose we're all guilty for the present state of world affairs.

On FOX News Channel's Day Side, Terrorism Expert John Loftus revealed that Haroon Rashid Aswat, the suspect wanted by British Police for "masterminding" the July 7th London bombings and July 21st attempted bombings is in fact an asset of MI6, the British Secret Service. According to Loftus, Aswat has been under the protection of MI6 for many years.

BBC is still in the blocks on this. Interestingly, however, a few days back (July 30) they reported that London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair remained confident that those responsible for the 7/21 attempted bombings would be caught. Speaking in a debate on BBC radio One, Sir Ian said the "net was closing" http://tinyurl.com/7jvx9.
Right. But closing on whom?
