This implies foreknowledge of the hurricane Xymph, or at least the plans were drawn up in advance and they waited for the big one to hit. But how would they know it would only hit N'yawlins"?
Was HAARP switched on to give the Category 2 a boost? Mighty fishy.

WTF is a Pop-up Tropical Depression?
"Pop-Up Tropical Depression May Hit Florida Thursday"
A tropical depression that flared up in the Bahamas on Tuesday may hit Florida as early as Thursday as a named tropical storm, forecasters said.
The storm would be named Katrina, and appeared to be aiming for quick passage across Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico.
At 5 p.m. the center of the tropical depression No. 12 was located about 175 miles southeast of Nassau with maximum winds of 35 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.
Forecasters said some strengthening is expected during the next 24 hours and the depression could become Katrina by Wednesday, which is the eve of 13th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, the most expensive natural disaster in U.S. history.

Oh yes they knew in advance alright!!
"NOAA is calling for a 95% to 100% chance of an above-normal 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, according to a consensus of scientists at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC), Hurricane Research Division (HRD), and National Hurricane Center (NHC). This forecast reflects NOAA’s highest confidence of an above-normal hurricane season since their outlooks began in August 1998.
The updated outlook calls for an extremely active season, with an expected seasonal total of 18-21 tropical storms (mean is 10), with 9-11 becoming hurricanes (mean is 6), and 5-7 of these becoming major hurricanes (mean is 2-3). The likely range of the ACE index for the season as a whole is 180%-270% of the median."

Irishdrifter - I suspect the plans were drawn up in advance. Xymph's post is the first one that makes some sort of sense of the matter - FEMA's peculiar actions, the pattern of non-help etc. Bush and co lack the respectability of certain elements of the mafia and are simply foul, egregious thugs top to bottom. How cute to see Rice and Powell playing pro-Bush violins to stamp down angry sentiments from the African-American community over this whole abhorrent mess.

Irishdrifter, I agree with Bogan the W. Just as the Project for the New American Century pinned its hopes on a big disaster like 9/11 to shape the public will to their needs. they surely had a disaster plan for New Orleans that was only a matter of time. In 2003 National Public Radio was reporting on the potential of a catastrophic disaster should a Category 5 Hurricane hit the New Orleans area.
Opportunists like Bush/Cheyney/Haliburton have teh ability to seize the moment and milk it written into all their business plans I'm sure.

irishdrifter - Foreknowledge of "the" hurricane - yes, from the weather satellites. Knowledge that this was a particularly busy hurricane season? Common knowledge. Knowledge that patterns in the Gulf Stream have changed to bring more in? Common knowledge.
There was a drill with a fictional Hurricane Pam hitting NOLA in 2004, with FEMA fully apprised of the situation. There was knowledge that a levee might very well break.
There has also been levee manipulation - no need to refer to a high tech conspiracy. Even known that one place was flooded to save another.
But the rapaciousness of this administration is known. They have the country arrayed before them like a Monopoly board, and a compliant Congress allowing their predations.
California has Schwartzenegger, in because of manipulation of the power grid by Enron which reflected badly on the hoodwinked Gray Davis, former Gov. recalled from office with a circus-like special election. Should a giant earthquake hit California, uncaused by human agency, the Bush people will be all over the place with their cronies again just as they were in the Enron rolling blackouts situation.
Please do not resort to untested semi-theological explanations. The human ones are all too obvious: Greed-heads who want to rule us are in the driver's seat, doing their fascist best to rule the whole world off our backs. We are fortunate that they are dumber than dirt when it comes to high-tech.
They aren't German rocket scientists, thank God, but businessmen with troglodyte instincts.

Get Off The Fucking Freeway': The Sinking State Loots its Own Survivors
by Larry Bradshaw and Lorrie Beth Slonsky Wednesday, Sep. 07, 2005 at 3:13 AM
Two paramedics stranded in New Orleans in the wake of hurricane Katrina give their account of self-organisation and abandonment in the disaster zone
Two days after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, the Walgreen's store at the corner of Royal and Iberville streets remained locked. The dairy display case was clearly visible through the widows. It was now 48 hours without electricity, running water, plumbing. The milk, yogurt, and cheeses were beginning to spoil in the 90-degree heat. The owners and managers had locked up the food, water, pampers, and prescriptions and fled the City.
Outside Walgreen's windows, residents and tourists grew increasingly thirsty and hungry.
The much-promised federal, state and local aid never materialized and the windows at Walgreen's gave way to the looters. There was an alternative. The cops could have broken one small window and distributed the nuts, fruit juices, and bottle water in an organized and systematic manner. But they did not. Instead they spent hours playing cat and mouse, temporarily chasing away the looters.
We were finally airlifted out of New Orleans two days ago and arrived home yesterday (Saturday). We have yet to see any of the TV coverage or look at a newspaper. We are willing to guess that there were no video images or front-page pictures of European or affluent white tourists looting the Walgreen's in the French Quarter.
We also suspect the media will have been inundated with "hero" images of the National Guard, the troops and the police struggling to help the "victims" of the Hurricane. What you will not see, but what we witnessed, were the real heroes and sheroes of the hurricane relief effort: the working class of New Orleans. The maintenance workers who used a fork lift to carry the sick and disabled. The engineers, who rigged, nurtured and kept the generators running. The electricians who improvised thick extension cords stretching over blocks to share the little electricity we had in order to free cars stuck on rooftop parking lots. Nurses who took over for mechanical ventilators and spent many hours on end manually forcing air into the lungs of unconscious patients to keep them alive. Doormen who rescued folks stuck in elevators. Refinery workers who broke into boat yards, "stealing" boats to rescue their neighbors clinging to their roofs in flood waters. Mechanics who helped hot-wire any car that could be found to ferry people out of the City. And the food service workers who scoured the commercial kitchens improvising communal meals for hundreds of those stranded.
Most of these workers had lost their homes, and had not heard from members of their families, yet they stayed and provided the only infrastructure for the 20% of New Orleans that was not under water.
On Day 2, there were approximately 50

Maybe the real "Illuminati" is just a group of businessmen sitting in a darkened room cooking up conspiracy theories about themselves for us to talk about like it's fact. It's just a bunch of fucks trying to sell books and videos about Freemasons. Whatever. You wish life was really this interesting.
Maybe reality is a lot simpler than you think, or would like it to be. The people of N.O. had plenty of warning. All the actual HUMAN BEINGS left when they had the chance. The ones who stayed behind stayed behind for the sole fucking purpose of LOOTING. Those that were left (stayed) behind are the fucking ANIMALS, the DREGS of society whether they're white or fucking black. I'll bet they didn't expect a fucking flood to ruin their theiving festivities. Awww...too bad. The rest of those "people" are old, crippled, and retarded.
If you ask me, there was no loss of human life in New Orleans.
So now, after the flood foils their plans of mayhem and robbery, they can cry because they didn't get rescued THAT FUCKING SECOND!! Oh, boo fucking hoo!!
"I'm not a 'refugee', I'm American!" Oh really? Just last week you were "African-American"...which one is it, you fucking scumbag?!? Anyone who crawls out from under rubble after surviving a natural disaster only to turn around and ROB and RAPE people instead of HELPING them should be shot on fucking sight or tried for fucking TREASON. It's disgusting. No, you AIN'T American... you don't deserve to be.
Fucking dumb southeners. Yeah...blame Bush. Don't blame your stupid black mayor. "Why blame him? He black, he one of US." Yeah, blame Bush... after all it's YOU stupid fucks who voted that cocksucker in. Isn't Louisiana a "red state" or some stupid shit?
And why should the government JUMP to fucking help you?? What has ANY of those people ever contributed to this society? If you ask me, Bush didn't NEED to act fast to save ANYONE.
All the actual PEOPLE listened to the warnings and fucking left when they had the chance. As far as anyone should be concerned, there WASN'T ANYONE LEFT TO HELP.
Hey man, they were told. If you decide to fucking STAY, whatever happens after that is on YOU. Learn to swim.

A-Pee News Update

Walmart vies for FEMA duties
In the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster which wiped out much of southern Louisiana and Mississippi, President Bush told reporters that "this were [sic] the worst disaster to hit American people [sic] since Enron stocks took such a dive."
The Bush administration has come under strong criticism for their lack of a prompt rescue of the hurricane's survivors. Bush spoke to reporters In between playing holes of golf recently to assure the American people that "I will look into the matter and see what went right, and
what went wrong," he said before pulling a four iron from his golf bag and smiling at the gallery.
When a New Orleans newspaper editorial harshly criticized the Bush administration for its disaster-relief efforts, they also noted that Walmart was more successful at getting supplies to refugees than FEMA. However, Homeland
Security Director Michael A. Cherk-off who oversees FEMA explained that "as a son of a rabbi, my first loyalty is to the Likudnik's who now control US foreign policy and it
is much more imporant that the Isreali settlers who have been displaced by the Palestinian cockroaches receive billions of dollars in aid rather than these goyim. Read your Talmud!"
A Walmart spokesperson came forward to state that "it would be our honor and privilege to relieve FEMA of their duties in the future, and we can deliver service with a smile and at a lower price. We even deliver many products
which carry the kosher seal and this will help Israeli settlements in the future."
In the meantime, Vice President Cheney is concerned that Halliburton and Kellogg Brown are being unfairly prevented from getting their fair share of contracts in order to rebuild New Orleans. "I have been up and down the coast
and am gravely concerned that Democrats are playing politics with the reconstruction process." Cheney recommends gutting the previous city and turning it into a strip mall that is identical to one in New Jersey.
When asked by reporters about the 100 billion dollar cost to American tax-payers for the reconstruction of the Gulf
region, versus the mininal cost of wetland protection and routine reinforcement of the damaged levees, Cheney had this to say: "Fuck the American people, they can either pay up or shut up. After all, we are talking about a war
that will not end in our lifetimes."
For her part, Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Party Minority
Leader said that she will do everything in her power to make sure that the corporations that contributed to her campaign will get their share of reconstruction contracts.
A Starbucks spokesperson said that "we are pleased with Senator Pelosi's humanitarian concern for the region, and
for our profit margins."

You aint seen nothing yet. Russian author Sorcha Faal has been dead on for the past few months. With her track record, I would pay attention to the upcoming Hurricane Ophelia. This was just named today yet she wrote all about "Operation Ophelia" two days ago and which says...
Russian Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that the Military Leaders of the United States have begun the implementation of what the Americans are calling ‘Operation Ophelia’, and which calls for the dividing of the United States into separate Military Districts under the command of their newly established North American Defense Division of NORTHCOM.
According to these reports ‘Operation Ophelia’ was originated as a strategic plan for the total changing of American society based upon ‘2 or more’ cataclysmic events occurring in their country over a period of 6 months, and as these reports further show these American Military Leaders are now ‘convinced’ are about to occur.
As these Americans are often fond of doing, the name of this Operation seemingly fits the intended consequences as Ophelia is one of Shakespeare’s most tragic characters, and whose attributes would mirror that of the entire peoples of the United States should they be struck with another disaster, "Ophelia's personality and emotions are very much like a teenage girls - emotional, thoughtful, sensitive and finally, she goes mad."
Russian Military Analysts are further reporting that the slow response by the Americans to the disaster struck regions of their South were in fact due to the massive withholding of Military and Emergency equipment and troops that had previously been pre-positioned in their Mid-Western Regions for purposes that have yet not been discerned, but by their sheer numbers can be expected to be able to respond to an ‘impending’ internal crisis not currently envisioned by the American people themselves.
I strongly suggest you check out her articles before she is hacked and a disinfo brownshirt replaces her similarly to what's happened at Democratic Underground.

I tried to avoid the sense that Bush's non-response to the Hurricane wasn't somehow deliberate. I preferred the idea of overwhelming incompetence and America's finest pushing up daisies in mass graves in Iraq instead of being at home where and when they were needed. Unfortunately this situation may have had more to do with the Dominionist theory that the poor and infirm are responsible for their own condition therefore they are receiving their righteous punishment from god. It follows then that Bush and the rest of the crooks had no need to take care of these people because god had spoken. Simple contempt resulting in mass killing and dying. Sounds like just another day on planet Bush.

I knew something was up when that Carol Correla chick on CNN morning, last Friday [Sept 6] right at the start at 5 AM for nearly her whole 2 hours all she kept talking about was the shooting and the rapes and shooting at the rescuers {flags went up there} then for some reason they just kept looping footage of a kid happily playing on a little toy truck and then Carol harping the criminal element and shot's of the dome. One could easily see the hatred in Carols's eye's (but then again most anchor's I feel are just paid actor's) CNN was trying to lead the people into the sort of racist BS most white people should avoid which is stereo-typing. I guess they quickly changed their direction a few hours later probably because of the email's that I and others sent them.

my view is that Hurricane Katrina
was an 'Act Of God'
and that Hurricane Katrinas aftermath
was an action(or in-action) of men
i'm sure that for the past 20-25 years, behind the closed doors of the Cabinet Level meetings ...
the whispered long-range gameplan was
for the 'remaking of New Orleans',
if ever the opportunity came about...
this Bush administration had the luck of the draw (in their eyes)
all that was needed was just a little inaction & nonresponse to grow a major problem (hurricane & levee breach) into an event beyond Disaster and into a Catastrophic armageddon scenario...and to rid the valuable PORT of New Orleans of the riffraff & problems created by the inenerent & perpetual proverty class in the nearby residential sections of the city.
They (poor) will never return, as some dreamers dream, in newly constructed, subsidized housing for the poor and disenfranchized....
someone touched on the Dominionist mindsets in this regime.
To them, it is much better for the people of the N.O. ghettos & slums to be parceled out to different communities, so the potentially productive may be gleaned from the
chaff

Urinetown, iggy. And it's not just a play.
Anyway, I think I am noticing something. People's learning curve for wising up about Bush and his minions (also about Tony Blair's London crap) is getting faster. The action is getting tighter, with more people onto the scheming and not believing in the image anymore. Almost like some critical mass is getting there.
Stolen election (?) - anyway handed to them on a silver platter took a lot of jawing, and many don't believe. Then 9/11 came along with some obvious standing down of fighter jets (traceable to a memo put out by Rumsfeld in July 2001 telling them to go through him before they went up) - clearly a lot of weird stuff with 9/11 that a lot of people don't believe; then the anthrax (soon found to be domestic); then the war in Iraq where no WMD were found after every ally of the US was insulted or coopted; then the hopelessness of the war and its absurdity; now the standing down of FEMA while NOLA rotted... and the press finally "growing a spine."
Can it be that the press can now move about the scene of devastation without having to be embedded, as in Iraq? That there is a hunger to see how this government really functions in a "war zone"? A pent-up demand even on the part of journalists for explanations?
My only regret is that the Democrats will come back without changing their own selves enough, and will, like Kerry, refuse to smash Bush and his people into the ground so they'll never rise again. They need to be tried as criminals. But perhaps the secret of continuity of government (that CIA term) is that one hand washes the other.

I like it that I'm wising up about some things. It's interesting to see how the talking points of the day are spread. How they "Shock and Awe" every little point. However, I don't really understand how the republicans can keep supporting the lies and incompetence except that liberalism has been demonized to such an extent that they are like the looters in New Orleans who are just trying to save themselves from an ugly death. All this black-white, urban-rural business would be a lot more productive if people would just say, "Oh my God! They're not middle class". If we did that, then we could copy everything Norway does and relax.
I haven't really thought much about the dangers of a miltant police state. Sometimes I just think that 10% would just like to play Rambo or be afraid of Rambo all of the time. If you can stay out of their way, they'll concentrate on each other. Also, Dave McGowan makes a pretty good case that we have been living under lock-down for a very long time and just haven't realized it. He wrote "Putting the Bush Coup in Perspective" in 12/2000, and listed one presidential coup or assassination after another during the past 150 years. http://www.davesweb.cnchost.com/...t.com/
bush2.htm
I'll admit that I stick my head in the sand a lot, however.
I don't know much about our ruling elite, but I don't see how we could make any political system work without first determining what decisions they make, and then how we would do it. It seems to me that Liberalism puts more issues on the table for policy wonks and voters than conservatism does, but socialism is the only 'ism' that even recognizes a ruling elite.
I'm a firm believer that the Federal Reserve has got to go. I've read that 50% of the amount of every purchase is just the interest on the loans that have been assigned to it. And that 50% inevitably goes to enrichen the creditor class, the top 10%. You could ,instead, have that interest go to the treasury. Or we could have a different system, such as demurage - currancy loses money (taxes) over time so you want to spend it fast and on durable things.

A recent post says that the Astrodome is a concentration camp but there are only 8,000 people left there so many are moving out (to uncertain futures to say the least), but let's not weaken our radical analyses with hyperbole.
Just reported on CNN that "congress" (ie., that gang of whores) appropriated 50 billion dollars (please correct me if I misheard that) to FEMA, aka, the Department of Genocide. OK, called FEMA DOG is slightly hyperbolic but just a tad.
Mick Cherk-off and his mates will have lots of money to play with now. I agree with Xymphora, we can't let the government ruin New Orleans a second time around. Even CNN is offering some harsh criticism of Bush and sympathetic coverage to the survivors, in between the usual propaganda, so there is hope. (?)

This just in: Mike Brown of FEMA, now relieved of his command by a Coast Guard admiral, has returned to Washington. It has just been learned, too, that he sexed up his resume and never held any prestigious positions except perhaps for the Arabian Horse Association (where one of his duties was to look into the fairness of horse racing).
What a scamp!

As much as I can appreciate the cultural value and heritage of New Orleans I do question the wisdom of rebuilding a death trap below sea level.
At some time in the future a Cat4/5 WILL make a direct hit, and the city WILL be drowned again. No amount of engineering can protect it because the higher you make the levees, the faster they sink. Another flood is inevitable.

don't get me wrong, i can't stand the city at all, but i think los angeles is just a hair more "culturally relevant" than san francisco. you don't find artwork produced in san francisco in nearly every city worldwide.

I'm surprised the rapture right hasn't noticed that Brown's past at the International Arabian Horse Association, coupled with the Katrina disaster, makes him one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse!

Not true. Anal sex is where lawyers come from. The "feces fetus" is called "Santorum."

People need to start talking and writing to the media and Congress about the number of Katrina victims who are behind fences or barbed wire under heavy military guard and unable to talk to the press. The Left Coaster.com reprints part of an article by the Denver Post that says the new accommadations for the Katrina survivors look like Concentration Camps with the only photo I have seen of the FEMA REX84 Camps with American citizens imprisoned for being victims of a "natural" disaster.
Look up FISA - shocked to learn about the prelude to the "Patriot's" Act

katrina-rex-84-revisited.html
FEMA's deceptive role really did not come to light with much of the public until Hurricane Andrew smashed into the U.S. mainland. As Russell R. Dynes, director of the Disaster Research Center of the University of Delaware, wrote in The World and I, "...The eye of the political storm hovered over the Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA became a convenient target for criticism."
Because FEMA was accused of dropping the ball in Florida, the media and Congress commenced to study this agency. What came out of the critical look was that FEMA was spending 12 times more for "black operations" than for disaster relief. It spent $1.3 billion building secret bunkers throughout the United States in anticipation of government disruption by foreign or domestic upheaval. Yet fewer than 20 members of Congress, only members with top security clearance, know of the $1.3 billion expenditure by FEMA for non-natural disaster situations.
These few Congressional leaders state that FEMA has a "black curtain" around its operations. FEMA has worked on National Security programs since 1979, and its predecessor, the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency, has secretly spent millions of dollars before being merged into FEMA by President Carter in 1979.
One such black op was REX-84 (Alpha Explan, or Readiness Exercise 1984), exposed by the Miami Herald on July 5, 1987, and described as "a secret government within a government." Iran-Contra criminal Oliver North "worked closely with FEMA to redraw national contingency plans dealing with nearly everything from nuclear attack to civil insurrection," explains totse.com (FEMA: Blueprint For Tyranny).
"FEMA's action plan included the declaration of martial law, suspension of the Constitution and aggressive moves against dissenters. A trigger could be 'violent and widespread internal dissent.' This plan and its failure to clearly define a national crisis caused Attorney General Smith to issue an official protest.
The Herald reported that on Aug. 2, 1984, Smith emphatically expressed to National Security Advisor Robert 'Bud' McFarlane his alarm over FEMA's 'expansion of the definition of severe emergency to encompass
