Sorry, don't get it Xymph. Presumably the Escort was a stolen, reprocessed and thus 'untraceable' vehicle. Sounds as though these investigators spend most of their time sitting around swapping jokes and waiting for an open and shut case - like 99.9% of Messrs Plod.
