Check it out...

Gravatar For what its worth, I agree with you. People definately need to read entire posts before getting on their high horses and challenging you to a duel or something of that nature.(I'm not entirely sure if a fully fledged glove-slap did occur, given that as a lazy sod I didnt bother to read their comments, but challenging people to duels are all the rage nowdays... right?)

Gravatar you were a size 18, which isn't obese, but you did something about it.

my comment was in reference to people making excuses about their size.

my dad is a doctor and he says the number of morbidly obese people is dramatically on the rise. he says that most standard medical equipment doesn't support / can't be practiced on them as it isn't big enough.
the overall cost of these morbidly obese people is far greater as, not only do you need more (expensive) equipment, but they pretty much have the same ailments as every other person, times a thousand.

Gravatar Perseus - Very interesting! I'm sure the human rights people will be looking for an angle to complain.

Lou - Thanks. You should read the comments. They were quite interesting.

Kiki - Are you saying I was a size 18?? I have never been a size 18! The biggest I've been is a 12, but on me that almost looks like an 18 on someone taller. But yeah. I'm a 10 at the moment, and am still 10kgs overweight, and am going to a weight management clinic to try to lose it. Sure, it's hard, but it can be done, and I try my hardest not to complain about it, because it was my own choices that led me to put on that weight.

I agree about the medical profession. I think the country needs to start really doing something about obesity, rather than pumping millions of dollars into trying to upgrade medical equipment to deal with the morbidly obese. I suspect it would be a lot cheaper if they treated the source of the issues.

Gravatar from your last post comments:

"Kiki - my sister was born with tiny little bird bones and is generally about a size 4 - 6. She doesn't diet or do any exercise besides from chasing her 2 daughters around, she's just like that. I - sadly - was not born with tiny little bird bones like her and I have been everything from a size 10 to a size 18."

so, you either were or were not a size 18 at some point. either way, you've been fibbin!

Gravatar Oh, right. You were replying to Miss Giggles, not me!

Gravatar Yep - that was me Kiki!

And for my height, a size 18, if not obese, is so close to it as to make no difference!

Gravatar For the record, Miss Giggles, I don't think you look "obese". You seem to have the ability to carry off a little extra weight and still look gorgeous (much like Arna Banana seems to be able to from her photos).

I think you're one of those people that just stays in proportion if they put a little bit of weight on, so it doesn't look all weird and awful. Unlike myself!

So yeah, even though you aren't what I would classify as "slim", you just look more "voluptuous" than actually just "fat". I use quotations because I'm sure I could be more tactful, but this is me, and I don't know how to say such things! Haha!

Anyway, my point is even though I do think a size 16 up is "fat", there are still people who, at those sizes, look fine. But that doesn't mean they're not technically "fat", just that they seem to be able to pull it off a little better than most people could. So perhaps Mars is amongst those people too. I just think people get so unnecessarily offended when someone classifies their size as overweight, and even more so if someone gets to the obese stage. I don't understand it, really. Don't they see in their mirror that they're not thin? Don't they realise themselves that they're carrying extra kilos? Why get all upset about it? I don't understand.

Obviously you can still look attractive at size 16 and up. It's all about how you carry the weight and how you dress. I wasn't implying that by being fat, you are automatically hideous and ugly, because that's not true. I guess I didn't realise so many people would get so offended. I thought people would understand their own weight problems and realise that a size 16 is not thin. It doesn't mean you're not attractive. It just means you're not thin. And if you're happy with that, then it shouldn't bother you if someone tells you you're overweight (like a doctor, friend, or a blog post, not some random moron on the street).

Gravatar Ack - I should certainly hope I don't look obese because I'm nowhere near the weight that I was when I was a size 18!

But yeah - you're right, I seem to carry it evenly, so most people never realised how overweight I was, it was only family and friends that had known me for years that knew the difference.

Even when I am at a size 10, I don't look 'slim' - I still look voluptous because that's just my body type but again, it's not a get out of jail free card.

Gravatar Oh - and yes, I know how tactful you are! Why do you think you were the first person I asked for an honest assessment? :-P

I do understand why people get touchy about it - when I was a size 18, the LAST thing I wanted to hear was other people saying I was fat - even though I knew myself that I was.

And a lot of the time, it's easier to ignore the problem or convince yourself that it isn't really a problem. It takes a while to learn that easy ain't always easy.
