Well- Happy Birthday! 2 pieces of pizza is a lot for a small dog. I think. But I'm a cat person so I don't know dogs all that well. I DO know you don't leave them in the back of the car with food. 
I like these stories of your son- helps me remember that lovely age of question,question,question,question...so much to learn.

Oh, happy Bday!
I remember once when a friend had just brought home a little black furball kitten, and we ordered a pizza, and all sat down on the floor with it, and someone started to open the box and the kitten, which seriously was aaaall the way across the room, LEAPT into the air, sailing through the room, headed right for that pizza. Luckily, someone caught her just before she went splat in the middle of it.
