LOL. I just found evidence of an invasion and because I have NO sense of morality, I did what I always do: called the Orkin guy to come and kill them all. Sigh.
Hey, you gotta do what works. It's not necessarily a sense of morality that led me to buy live-catch traps -- I just thought the squick factor would be a little lower if I went that route. I wonder if you could put something like boric acid powder (?) around the inside perimeter of your home that would deter mice. If that seems too risky, maybe you could try caulking. When we lived in a roach-infested neighborhood (in an old house), my son's dad caulked all holes and gaps in the baseboards and around plumbing fixtures, etc. Not sure how or if this would work with mice, though. I'm laughing. I like mice okay- we had a family of many living in a small cornsilk nest in our gas grill one year- we couldn't grill for months because I couldn't bring myself to toss the wee ones mid-winter.
Did you happen to watch House last night? He was having an encounter with a rat...
One word: Gloves - ok lets add a modifier or two - thick leather gloves, like work gloves. A mouse won't get you through one of those. We have some experience out here in the great plains
