Once when I was home for vacation from college, I made the mistake of answering my parents' phone. The man on the other end said, "Hi sweetie, is your mommy or daddy home?" in this really saccharine voice. I (being sooooo mature for 20) was really irked by this. I guess it must happen to us all sometimes. At least you don't sound like you've been smoking for 30 years!

I know that feeling (clients thinking I'm young) so I try to sound older and not give out any details that would clue them into my real age. If anything, I only drop information that would make them think I'm older.
Of course that's an entirely different story in my personal life.
I have a really young voice and people think I sound way younger than I am, too. They used to also think I looked younger. Irked me then... now I miss it!

Never had that problem. At a young age I learned how to mimic my mom's voice perfectly. Came in really handy during high school, when I was "sick" all the time. Wink, wink.
Now, after having trained and worked on the telly and the radio, I get a lot of "Oh, your voice is so sexy. You should go on the radio..." Duh!
Wonder if it will still be sexy when I'm 70? Or will I sound like some scratchy voiced hag?
And I only wish I looked younger. The hubs and I went out to a comedy club the other night and I made a big stink of having to go back and grab my id just in case.

I think you would get opinions all over the board if you really went out and polled people. Don't worry about it. How are you supposed to sound older anyway?
As long as I keep getting the "You have a son in college?? No way!" I don't care how old I sound.
