First of all sending you big huge cyber hugs.
Every time I get a cold it goes to my chest and I am coughing through the night for weeks. The only thing that helps is hot drinks. Breaks up the mucus (sorry for the TMI) or vomiting..... that helps too.
Hope he is feeling better soon and you can all get some sleep!

That same thing happened to my med school friend last month. She had walking pneumonia, but the first time she went in, all they gave her was an inhaler.
Look at it this way. 15 years ago they'd have been shoving a prescription for amoxicillin in your hand as they shoved you out the door. See, medicine *is* evolving. :-P

@ Sydney - The kiddo is indeed vaccinated -- even for chicken pox. I suspect the fact that he didn't attend preschool (and therefore missed out on a year's worth of germs) means we're just getting caught up. Dunno if that's true, but it would explain some things. ;^)
I am so sorry. I know what you mean about the crapshoot. It's so hard to know what to do and whether you should worry or wait it out or what.

Aw, my heart hurts for the little dude. It sucks watching your kid struggle with an illness while we mommies stand idly by, hoping for a quick recovery.
