Have you tried leaving the tv on when you leave? It might keep the dog company in your absence (and drown out the noise). You might also try crating her from time to time when you're not going to leave so she doesn't associate the two events as strongly.
Your neighbor lady sounds like she's sniffing for trouble. I'm always skeptical of people when I don't know them that well and they offer to help with something like that.... but then, I'm probably not as nice a person as you are.

Oh boy, I know that look. I hope she's not going to become a thorn is your side. Oy.
Suzy is still new to your home and it must be weird to have had such a drastic change in her environment.
You might try putting a piece of your clothing in the crate with her...something that has your special smell.

Mrs. G., are you trying to say I smell...special? ;^) Seriously, that's a good idea, although I suspect Suzy's anxiety is part anxiety and part habit, if that makes any sense. I think that in addition to comfort, she needs something to "reset" her behavior. We're certainly open to trying anything and everything, though! Thanks!
