Invisible zippers are the easiest but if you want a regular zipper (or that's what you have), try sewing the zipper in with the seam basted shut. The Reader's Digest Sewing book has good diagrams—that I haul out every time even if I have done dozens of zippers.
Way back when I learned to sew in zippers, no one ever thought of basting the seam shut first but perhaps that's the only way anyone sews in zippers these days.

I understand how you feel about zippers being a hurdle. I was like that until I discovered the invisible zipper. Putting it in is almost as easy as sewing a seam for me. Try it if you haven't already. The skirt is beautiful by the way.

Very nice! I think I have that fabric too - is it just linen or a linen/cotton combination? It looks to have the drape of a combination.
Have you ever tried invisible zips? They're ten times easier than normal zips - I'm not overly keen on sewing normal zips either, can never get them to look that professional!
