I get very hooked on Civ II, but I have ethical dilemmas about the whole thing -- which I sidestep, usually, by teaming up with my husband: he goes around beating up the other civilisations, while I concentrate on science and let him defend my borders, and then we share all the advances we get. (I am fully aware that this is rampant hypocrisy and morally suspect, but it avoids me having to actually point people with guns at other people. These are the compromises we make in virtual life). We always win, but that might also be because we set it on very easy. Even with the winning, though we usually get epithets like "the Weak" and "the Pitiable". Seems like you have to wipe out the rest of the world to get the good names...

Ooooh! I absolutely LOVE Civ III. I sneak and play it here at work, sometimes staying over 30 minutes or more just to reach a certain "stopping point". It's so addictive.
Civilization was the first game that really hooked me. As a matter of fact I just tossed the box during fall cleaning (it was purchased in 1995 for my old Mac LCII). Now you've got me jonesin' to buy the latest version.
