Not sure about your cats -- but in our house, dog #1 (the basset hound) reacts to treadmill usage by resting his head on the side of the machine, with his snout about 1/2 inch away from the moving tread. And the emergency backup auxiliary dog reacts by generally just going nuts for about 10 minutes, and then slinking into a corner.

Maybe that explains why dogs put their heads out of windows. The moving scenery activates their treadmill gene.

Personally, I think the Joan of Arc rendition is very, very fetching! I particularly like the look on the face and the fashionable makeup (charming the troops?).
