What happens when you meet an imaginary friend in the flesh, or receive a gift from them? Why, then they become proof that there's magic in the world. And that's one of the best gifts one can receive, from any sort of friend, including an imaginary friend or an imaginary friend made real.
Joy to all in 2005!

I really hope that they're OK.
I remember hearing that same thing, only with more detail. On the 31st, you cleaned house and made sure that all was fixed up and ready for the new year. Then, on the first, you put on new clothes and did what you wanted to spend the year doing. That menat no heavy work, but visiting with people and doing things you enjoyed.
I'm partly observing that; I'm wearing a new shirt and the socks I finished last night. I also saved up all of my grading for today in hopes that I'll get a full time teaching job.
(And I'm letting my laundry age a bit; I figure it's good for meat, cheese, and wine, so it should be good for clothes.)

I'm so very glad I didn't hear about your New Year's "rule" last year. I spent the day having contractions. Lots and lots of contractions. This year - stuffed cabbage and knitting alongside my mother (a first!).
Is it a bad sign to have more virtual friends than real?

I see no one has guessed where the family is from based on the New Year's menu. I'd say somewhere in the south ... maybe Tennessee or Alabama or Georgia or Louisiana -- some place like that.

You're from the South. You can have greens and skillet cornbread anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon Line, or more specifically, anywhere south of Lexington. But, hoppin' john, that's a little more uncommon. I would say Georgia, or Alabama. Maybe Tennessee, but that's pushing it. But, from your sidebar, it seems that you now live in Pittburgh ... correct?
