Thanks for posting a picture! I've been trying to imagine it and the pictures are much better. Do you have a link that tells the history of the place?

Oh, I LOVE that house.
Congratulations. Clearly the Karma Man is smiling upon you, also.

Growing up in a '60s ranch house in suburban California, I used to wish for a house with stairs, like the ones in books. The Bear's House would have been beyond my wildest dreams. You are sooo lucky.

It's beautiful! Thanks for (at least temporarily) adding the word "sidhe" to my vocabulary.
And the hand. My guess is that it points to the former location of an outdoor privy.

Maybe Carl is right and the hand used to have a painted sign that said 'gents' or something.
I think not.
Beyond wildest dreams is right.
Off to google 'sidhe'. As in 'Revenge of the Sidhe'?
Have fun in England. xoxo Kay

whoa. woman, you scored big! that house is beautiful! are you going to have your own room for crafting/computering, etc? i'm jealous. i'm with amber, i may have to come and visit, preferrably in october, when it's cool enough to have a fire (that chimney definitely looks fireplace worthy) and the leaves are turning, but i dont' ahve to battle snow. congrats, hon, you done good.

Is it possible that the hand could be an old hobo marking? I don't know much about it, but I believe that when hobos found a friendly home (e.g., where the owner would give them a little something to eat at the back door), they used to make a marking to indicate to other hobos that this was a good place to stop. I think the marks were usually done in chalk but maybe they carved them too.
Great house! Good luck with it.

Is it possible that the house was on the Underground Railroad? Although a pointing hand would be too obvious a sign.
The house is fantab. Congratulations.

It's gorgeous. I live in a community where a home dating back to the 1880s is memorable (it was all wilderness hereabouts until then).
On the other hand, we really do have bears wandering through the neighbourhood and across the street often enough to figure that maybe we qualify as the Bear's Summer House.

Oh I have so been enjoying the tales of Bear's retreat and the pictures were a serious treat I know moving and all is a pain, but this property...wow!

That's a beautiful house. The property reminds me of where I grew up. You and your husband and The Child are very, very lucky indeed.

Is it possible that there is a time capsule or something inside/under of the house at that location? It is very intriguing. I think it adds a nice mystery...it's gergeous.
