OK, I'm thinking I too should listen to R&M ~ at least when I unpack that hastily filled POD of its stashed contents. I did manage to weed out SOME books, and filled many Supercans . . .

Ahh - tune in for knitting and get a music and history lesson - what fun! I would also like to see New Orleans but, like you, would prefer to eschew modern Mardi Gras celebrations. Krewe of Venus - who knew?

Iko, Iko reminds me of the 1952 Hank Williams' song Jambalaya. While it lacks the rich history and limitless versions of Iko, Iko, Jambalaya's lyrics have always been equally mystifying to me. But, really, are there better lyrics anywhere than "Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and fillet gumbo." Proof of the song's staying power is the fact that it's been covered by everyone from The Carpenters to John Fogerty to Emmylou Harris. Even Bruce Springsteen has included this song in his concerts.
