Gravatar Anne, she sounds like she was a Magnificent Cat. This was a nice tribute to her. May she rest peacefully.

Gravatar RIP Marguerite. Leave it to you, excellent Anne, to come up with something much better than even The Tenth Good Thing About Barney, which we've outgrown here. We will need 'For We Will Consider our Hamster Hammy Jr.' at some time in the future, far off I hope (they live 2-3 years), as we have yet to get a new one due to mourning the passing of Hammy last May. Being sad about a hamster (really! suprisingly!), I know I am not made of stern enough stuff for cat ownership. She seems to have been a great one and being your cat she had a rich story. xoxo Kay

Gravatar Ahhh - not your era perhaps, but there's also Tennessee William's Maggie the Cat, from "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

Bless her dear little feline soul. The child doing okay?

Gravatar Your allusion to Jubilate Agno had me in tears. I read this selection after Medbh's untimely death and it always inspires equal amounts of comfort and sorrow.

Gravatar My heart goes out to you and yours. Maggie sounds like a wonderful cat.
I lost one of my babies on June 7th, and her sister is now sick as well. It is never easy to lose a pet. How dare they become such a part of our lives? But I could never be without at least one cat.
You and Maggie will bein my thoughts today. *hug*
Martha

Gravatar I'm so sorry about Maggie. It sounds like a peaceful end to an epic life, and surely she could not had a better eulogy.

Gravatar You made me cry.

I miss my kitties.

Rest in peace Maggie, and do visit your family often. They miss you already.

Gravatar All the greatest poets wrote about with good reason. Cats are excellent creatures and touch our lives in ways we never thought possible. My favourite cat-poem is John Keats's 'To Mrs Reynold's Cat' but, when it comes to the death of a cat, I can't think of anything more appropriate than the refrain of 'Deor', a 10th century poem I learnt as a student: 'Thaes ofereode, thisses swa maeg' ('That has passed and so can this'). My thoughts are with you, Puplet.

Gravatar sounds like maggie was a magnificent cat, worthy of the name marguerite. i'm sure she will be sorely missed. how is the child doing? and you and the mister?

our oldest cat is 11, and is doing well right now, but i dread her passing. my youngest has become hopelessly attached to her (he's 11 too). i will remember the piece you read though, and use it for our cats as well.

Gravatar I agree with your statement that every cat has a line. I've enjoyed finding the ones that describe my pride.

RIP at Bear's Retreat, Maggie.

Gravatar A beautiful tribute. Rest in peace, Maggie.

Gravatar They break our hearts, but I wouldn't be without them. Love to Maggie, and to all of you.

Gravatar Indeed. (And I also assumed "Maggie the Cat" was from Tennesee Williams).

The last line of your post read a little differently to me at first; I thought you were making an allusion to the love and loss of pets being like the "training wheels" for the bigger loves and losses in our lives. I thought that was quite a lovely sentiment, if not what you actually intended.

It is always so hard to lose them. So hard.

Gravatar I think she's in heaven cuddling on August Wilson's lap right now.

Gravatar Love to the family. I know Maggie is purring in sunny fields as she stalks her favourite food-on-four-tiny-paws through tall grass.

Gravatar Florintina is inconsoleable at the moment, looking every where for her best friend so I've told her Maggie cat is looking after him, the turning of the day and the dimming of the light seems too swift at this moment. Heart broken don't come near to it really but I smile for the last days and for all the days up till today
Love to you all.

Gravatar Good rest and godspeed, Maggie!

You write wonderful tributes!

M

Gravatar So sorry about Maggie the cat. We lost our old guy Cider a little over a year ago. He was born here and was about 14 years old when he died. My husband still isn't ready for another cat, although the rest of the family would dearly love one. Every so often I hear a noise and it sounds like Cider coming down the stairs. I wonder, are there cat ghosts?

Your tribute to Maggie was just wonderful. I've never read "For I will Consider My Cat Jeoffrey." I've got to try to find it.

I hope you all are beginning to recover from your loss.

Gravatar Maggie sounds like a wonderful cat. How lucky she was to have had you, and how lucky you were to have had her. My thoughts are with you.

Gravatar I lost both of my cats a few years ago, both to old age, and am still devastated, to the point where I have never been able to replace them. Thank goodness for our Frankie!!

My heart truly goes out to you, dear Anne!

Gravatar What a lovely tribute to Maggie. Please accept my sympathies.
