Gravatar that sounds like a hoot! i may well see if i can find a copy!

merry christmas!

(we feed santa cheese and crackers around here, lol)

Gravatar Care of the Homeless, the Helpless and the Vicious? I'm all ears! (I've been wondering what to do with my relatives, and most of them fall into at least one of those categories.)

Gravatar I would dearly love to know how to deal with the Vicious, as we have one of those in our immediate family. She definitely needs dealing with.

Gravatar Oh! I have wanted that book for ages! Specifically for the "floor plans for sane and holy living."

Gravatar Re Calcutta: I'm wondering if a Nawab is the same thing as a Nabob. I hope not, because "the nattering nawabs of negativism" lacks a certain cachet.

Gravatar I love it.
And you have to love a woman who not only thinks butter is a food group, but the second most important food group.

Gravatar Ah yes, lovely sounding book. I have Mrs. Dunwoody's book on Homekeeping, but it's a modern publication and, frankly, lacking the appropriate attention to respiration.

I also have Home Comforts and while it is a dense tome of amazingly scary household facts, it does not place any emphasis on the respiration of the occupants. Plus, not so much on the Christian woman's duty, but I suspect that has to do with the religious background of the author.

Gravatar What about somebody who is helpless AND vicious? Or viciously helpless? I am so confused now. I like her food pyramid, though.

Gravatar I'm so glad you're enjoying the book!! I waffle between thinking that Catharine was a bit touched & that she was a domestic goddess. Maybe the two are not mutually exclusive?

Gravatar Sounds like an excellent followup to our current practice of reading bits of Fannie Farmer aloud--I particularly like the passages on questions like "beverages: what are they and why do we need them."
