Great timing! I just got a copy of "Heirloom Knitting" for Christmas and planned on doing one of the lace baby jackets. That should be a challenge enough in 16 days (particularly since it coincides with my return to work and the end to my surpluss knitting time), but still do-able. I've done lace, but not for an entire garnment, so that should count as "new" (plus, I think I'm going to chose a lace pattern more difficult than the one suggested).

My money is on Emma, who plans to knit a sweater large enough for only one person. She must work for the GAO, and is used to overruns.

I discovered Entrelac the other day, and have put it on my list of things to learn. It looks like so much fun.
I have to think about the Olympics thing. I'm in the middle of a big project that I don't want to get distracted from, and I'm such a slow knitter, and whine whine whine. Maybe socks would count as a challenging thing (I'm a newbie) but are still finishable in that time frame. *ponders*

I am already signed up to work on a sweater vest for my grandmother - it'll be a good way to get my feet wet for making a whole sweater later in the year. Go team Pittsburgh go!

I signed up, as well, with my official "event" being the Sousa Dogwood Shawl from Knitting in America. I've wanted to make it forever, so I'm hoping the competition gives me a little focus. I'll need it. The whole thing sounds like a hoot, but I'm obsessive anyway so it is right up my alley.

The way I see it (though admittedly, I think about this more than most people) is that you have three ways to challenge yourself.
1. Difficulty.
2. Speed.
3. Handicap
Technically speaking, you could do a really, really easy small sweater with drunkeness as a handicap.

!! That Stephanie is quite hilarious. (referring to comment above. also wondering over her amazing aptitude to come comment on the blogs of others in the midst of near-hospitalizations, etc.)
Personally I was just thinking "I should *try* brioche stitch. I've managed lots of things I didn't think I could so far..." Neither have I done Entrelac though. But as you will see if you visit my blog, I am doing neither for this project. No, this will be a full-on lacey beaded cardigan for me.

I'm thinking about it -- I just need to find a project. Entrelac I think as well (although I like the drunkeness handicap I'm not certain my boss or family would be understanding of the 16 day drinking binge.)

I'm all for a Pittsburgh team. I think I'm going to have to go for "handicap" in my challenge. Between my thesis, job search, and TAing, I think I'm just going to be going for "look! I found some time!"

Okay, I'm not in Pitt, but I'm actually considering this. I'm willing to accept that I may not complete it, but I figure I could try it.
I'm thinking about the toddler afghan that I need to make for B's godmother (who is now, quite wonderfully, having her own baby).

i'm doing speed, i suppose. i'm knitting 15 12" squares in 15 different patterns (and yes, one is garter stitch, lol).
go pittsburg! i used to be a pittsburg fan in the good old days of terry bradshaw, lynn swann, and et al.
and, rabbitch, swatching is not weak when you're doing big enough swatches to use for a different project (;P)

it's on! as the lame owner of the pittsburgh knitophiles ring (lame because i haven't blogged about knitting in months, though i knit up a storm--i just forget to photography anything, let alone blog about it!), i say, let's do it! but...i think we shouldn't all attempt the same project--just think of each other as cheering each other on
i have no idea what i'll be knitting in february; it just depends how fast i get through the queue. right now i'm working on knitty's otis cardigan, then it's knitty's flora scarf, then something for a friend i haven't picked yet, then knitty's tempting 2 pullover, then a couple of little-boy things i haven't picked yet...i doubt i'll get further than that between now and then, so one of those things

Hello! I'm arranging an Olympic Event Sunday Feb 19 at Damon's at the Waterfront, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for Team PGH. Friends and families are welcome to cheer on the knitters. If you could help get the word out, I'd appreciate it! We hope to see you there!
