I am glad that you are having a nice summer. I may have checked your blog each and every day...and I may have slunk away like a sad puppy...
...a sad puppy missing "the funny."

Nice to see you back. Did you know that the ability to pronounce a Nordic word like "fjord" is, in fact, a liguistic lifeline? Someone suffering from hypothermia would be unable to pronounce "fjord", and would say something like, "I fell in the ford". Then they would rush him to one of those reindeer tents and warm him up.

Why don't you write a book, " a texinan in norway". It wouldn't have to be long as the sun doesn't shine much.

I'm very glad you've turned up again. I've got Gerald Durrell on hold at the library to read to my own kids, but it couldn't be the same as reading about the adventures at Bear's Retreat.
Now, about that lavender pound cake: I live in Canada, and would also not be in a position to compete. It sounds very intriguing. Maybe I'll have to bake some lavender cookies instead since my lavender's coming in full force. We picked strawberries on the weekend and flavoured our jam with lavender.
