We just returned from our trip to the other ocean (yes, I call it the _real_ ocean), which included a stop at the aptly named Washaway Beach near Grays Harbor, WA. There was only one house remaining on the beach (and the remains of many others), and it was surrounded by a fortress-like stone wall halfway up the windows. Not much of a view. But it was clearly the home of optimists.
The roof was brand new.

False crawls for are common for sea turtles; they get spooked, or they decide they don't like the sand, they aren't in the mood right then, there is a pretty shell over there, whatever. We get them even on the un-renourished parts of our beaches down here.
Always makes for a bit of early morning excitement when the turtle patrol comes by and tries to determine if they have a nest or not.

Isle of Palms, which is on the other side of Charleston from Edisto, is one of the few barrier islands in which beach accretion is taking place; the seaside homes are getting farther from the sea. Wouldn't you just bet that some builder would try to squeeze in another row of homes in front of existing beachfront houses? Yep; one did , but the plan was quickly squelched.
