Anne,
On target....again. Same thought here. I have two young girls, and I would hope that they would have the sense and proper upbringing to not even think about it, but if they did something would happen to the effect:
1. Laugh to try to shame them into not wearing it and make a comment about low-class skanky-mommaism.(fear and shame are great motivators-works for me)
2. Some variation of "Not my daughter, not while you are living under my roof on my dime."
3. Who paid for that?
4. And the scariest thing of all, "Does your mother know you own that dress?!?"
Honestly, I don't blame the kids. A $475 pedophile's dream dress is all about poor, weak, parents and a culture that even tries to sell such things to children.
I would like to ask the designer a question that I like to pull out in situations like this, "Do you have any children?"

Where are the dads? No, where are the fathers? There is a difference. Dad is the one who says "goo goo" and makes funny sounds to a laughing two year old. Father means loving and setting standards, something both women and men refuse to do. We have a nation of immature mommies and daddies too afraid to parent and who are emotionally younger than their 12 year olds.

Howard,
I see and agree with your point. I'm a southern girl, though, and the word Daddy is a special one for me. It's one of protection and treating a daughter as someone special.
But, again, I agree with your point about our need for standard-setting moms and dads!

Anne--this is but one of many "interesting" prom dresses I found at the company's site: http://www.cbslimited.com/
They actually have an email link titled "Ask us a question about this dress"...so of course, I did

My hope is that, when my daughter is old enough for her prom, the pendulum has swung the other way, favoring Victorian style modesty in dress! How utterly awful that picture was -- and how demeaning to the child wearing it. (Speaking of demeaning, where is NOW when it comes to something that really affects our daughters?) BTW, I've had good luck finding clothes at Target -- they're not well made, but if you look hard enough, you can find slightly trendy, pretty clothes that will take rough use long enough for your child to outgrow them.

Bookworm, I like Target's clothes for kids, too, but unfortunately we are Target-less out here! Sad, but true...
I buy most of my daughter's clothes from Lands' End.
