It's both a classy comment and a bit of an insult, isn't it? The subtext seems to be that America is a sinking ship, that they're gracious enough to help us out, and that they're paying the price for seeing us through our error. Or maybe I'm just getting paranoid whenever any Hollywood type who isn't a loud and proud Republican says something....

My reaction is similar to Bookworm's. Lowe's statement rubs me the wrong way. This isn't just "our war." Also, if the "tremendous cost" he is talking about is 7/7, then he is echoing the "you brought it on yourselves" crowd.

I guess I just missed that. They have paid a cost, as we have, with lost lives in their military during these last few years of the war. I appreciated that he thanked our ally, instead of the usual stuff about us going it alone. And I thought it was refreshing to hear some gratitude instead of the "Bush lied..." mantra I'm used to hearing from Hollywood.

As to that last, Anne, you've got a good point. It really is rare to hear a Hollywood type have the graciousness to refrain from Bush-bashing.

Hello Bookworm and Gina--Stop nitpicking and be gracious enough yourselves to appreciate a positive statemnt. It doesn't have to be perfect, for heaven's sake. The guy is an actor, not a speech writer
