(hangs head in shame) I read the sequel too. It's even worse. And I still finished it...

Hmmm, should I recommend the book? Ooh that's a tough one... ;)

Sorry I can't add any fuel to the debate since I have not heard of (before now) nor read said book. I can see why it would get your ire up however.

We did indeed broach the subject lightly once.

Did we discuss this one one? If so, I was in the 'not like' camp and you were there with me, roasting marshmallows and grilling bad authors.

Come on, Fence, you know me better than that. Agreeing loudly with me constitutes "heated debate" in my book.
Man, Guillermo, I almost didn't recognize you under that cunning disguise... Go on, buy it, we'll compare notes.

Having read the book would be de rigueur for entering the debate but anyhow I want to say that I totally agree with you after the well prepared "aside" you gave in this post, and because you've already had me convinced as the posts (days) go by.
Though now, my curiosity will certainly have me buy the book !(giving here a touch of balance to the debate, usefull for it to live on)

I've seen it in shops, but that is as close as I've ever actually gotten to reading it.
I could possibly make up an opinion, but in order to start a heated debate I'd have to like it wouldn't I?

kyknoord, I fear you give me a little too much credit in the critique area...
Ah thank god, oiseau. I was wondering if some Brits would agree with me. I have finished it too - and started the sequel (I have self-flagellation issues): it seems less... more... better.

I'm absolutely with you on this one. Really, really disliked the book. It wasn't the Paris or France that I knew (and loved and disliked in various measures). But I still finished it...

I generally try to avoid catalogues of not-very-funny stereotypes, so I guess I'll be giving this one a skip.
